There's more money on Millionaires Row at Churchill Downs on Derby Day than exists in the entire state of Alabama any time of year.

That money sure isn't from Kentucky.

Some of it is. Coal magnates, thoroughbred owners, and country music singers.

Majority of the horses ran yesterday were bred and trained in Kentucky. When they're put to stud they'll make millions more.

Plenty of money at that track comes from Kentucky.

I cannot find my favorite bourbon and I worry that once it's in production again it will be different.

Look, Kentucky is a beautiful state, but let's not pretend that it is a rich place.
I don't care where you go, there are a few people with a bit of money around.

And let's not pretend that the state of Alabama is the one sending the money to the state of Kentucky on Derby Day either.

Obviously.

Even though we do have Kentucky Speedway. So we're working on covering all the bases.

Who was? Certainly wasn't me.
I am also not the one that started comparing the two places financially, because they are pretty much about even.

auggie, while the eastern third of Kentucky is a clone of West Virginia's poorest areas, the central and western regions are as middle to upscale America as any well-to-do state. You should really pay a visit.

I know that Alabama has its version of Eastern Kentucky. Most southern states do. Our poor part of the state is undergoing yet another economic crisis because of the closing of many more mines. Half of the Commonwealth's 14,000 miners have lost their jobs since 2011.

Because the eastern part of the state didn't diversify economically, these poor people have no choice but to migrate away from the area. Maybe we can make it a gigantic park after it empties out completely.

I think the real issue here is how we allowed Roger to drink Makers when there are so many other bourbons that are better.

A bourbon intervention may be needed.

See if you can get your hands on either a bottle of Rowan's Creek or Noah's Mill. Both made in Bardstown out of the Willett Distillery. They're both great for the price you pay

I have been all over The State of Kentucky,I stand by my statement that economically,it runs about dead even with Alabama. Both need to do better.

Alabama has been bringing in some big industry over the last 25 years or so, especially in auto manufacturing,(Mercedes,Hyundai,Honda,Toyota) in turn that creates spin-off jobs from some of their supply chain companies as well, but there are still places where the saw mills are the only jobs around. Those are the folks that have it bad.
