Not looking for a pro or anti-vax debate. Had another person I know, unrelated to work, die of Covid today. Has everyone on here had a family member or person they know die from Covid? Anyone here not know a single person whose death was caused by Covid? Just wondering.

No kidding. Do you live in a rural area? I know hundreds of people who have gotten covid and more than ten who have died, but I live in a pretty big city.

The operative phrase is “close to me,” meaning family and friends. Certainly, several people in my neighborhood have contracted it.

Before December, I haven't heard of anyone close to me (up to 2 degrees of separation) getting Covid since the spring. In the past 2 weeks, I know of 4 people who have tested positive. All have mild symptoms and are fully vaccinated.
I only know 1 person who died from covid last year. But I know several who were hospitalized for a few weeks before they recovered.
My dad passed away in September. I have no proof but I keep wondering if Covid was a factor. When the EMTs came; he had trouble breathing and said he had very low oxygen levels. On the way to the hospital, he went into cardiac arrest and died. He had been sick for several years and was bedridden the last couple. So he already had a weakened immune system and in poor health.
The frustrating thing is he was never able to get the covid vaccine because there was no protocol for the homebound. The county finally had a program up in the summer but the waiting list was months long.

My condolences for your family's loss.
So far my family has avoided COVID (I'm paranoid, which helps) but the town I live in has had some deaths. I am friends with several people who've lost family members.

I know one. My grandfather.
Now, he didn't died from the Coronavirus, but it was directly responsible for his passing.
His pussy doctors kept cancelling his appointments even though he was in constant pain because of muh quarantine and his potassium levels got so high his kidneys were eaten alive. They finally agreed to see him after 6 months and put him on dialysis.
After that his body practically shut down system by system.
fricking cowards.

Two guys from my first deployment died back in August of the Delta variant.
Both were in their late 40s - early 50s and were bigger guys that put on the pounds after they got out. Other than being overweight, I don't know what additional health issues they had.
I hate it for their families especially Shaun's daughters, but that doesn't change my mind about how this is nothing to shut the country down over.

Father of a woman who works for me died from it late in 2020. He was older, but in good physical health.
Last week a High School classmate's wife passed away from it (I just found out about it over the weekend). Early 50s, and in reasonably good health (no co-morbidities).
Everyone else I know who has had it has recovered.

Sorry for your loss. That is of the aspects of this pandemic that is infuriating. The complete lack of focus on how quarantines have caused so many unnecessary fallout like what happened with your grandfather.
Another thing I don't understand is the treatment (or lack therof) of people with active Covid cases. I got the Delta variant in late July and wasn't given anything at all for the bad couch I had when I tested positive at the urgent care. I went back in a week and a half later with the same bad cough and much more chest tightness. Chest x-rays were negative thankfully and the doc then called in a prescription cough medicine that knocked my cough and chest tightness out in a matter of a few hours. Have no idea why they didn't call that medicine in my first time in. There's no telling how many people that had moderate cases like I did that got far more serious because they weren't given something to treat the symptoms.

I've known a few who died.
Dad came down with it Christmas. He was vaccinated and boostered. Felt terrible for a couple days, then got better.

My dad was in late stage Alzheimer’s in August 2020. He checked every box, including eating very, very little. You basically ‘forget’ how to swallow when you live into it that far. Aspiration becomes very likely.
It was then that he contracted ‘COVID pneumonia’. He had no more than six months to live, probably far less. But the cause of death on his death certificate was COVID related. It’s silly, really.
Having said that, I’ve known many people that ‘had it’, tested positive. None hospitalized, or seriously ill. A couple felt obligated to send me pics from lounging in their pool or at the beach while ‘quarantining’.

I only know one person who has for sure died from it, probably a dozen or so who have had it.
I'm what you call a damn trainwreck healthwise, so my drill sergeant wife is doing exemplary duty keeping germy people out of our house and away from me. I think I'll keep her.

Germs are good for you overall. If you are too strict, you can weaken your immune system making the things you do get even worse.
Not saying go out and start licking door knobs or anything, but germs are important.
Good luck though.
