re: Best beach in the SEC foot print. The Destin/Fort Walton/30A area is #1.

I've lived here 20 years. The best time to come to Destin is mid September to mid October. That's when the water is the best. The temperature is nice and there are few tourists. During the summer when I go to the beach , I'm on the beach at 7am and off by 9 to 930. The best seafood places are off the beaten path. However we usually just catch and eat our own.

Myrtle Beach to Miami I have been up and down the Atlantic side just does not compared to the Destin area. I have ran into many first timers in Destin and have always gone to Myrtle Beach for vacation and said they would never go back to Myrtle Beach because it was a dump compared to Destin. Just shocked how much prettier the Destin beaches were.
Spent plenty of time in the gulf, it’s beautiful most of the time. Also been to beaches from North Carolina to Miami. Don’t like it when it’s crowded on either the Gulf or Atlantic. My favorite beach trips have been Pawleys Island and Clearwater. My most frequent have been Destin, HHI, and Daytona. Best day I ever had at the beach was Daytona when my kids were maybe 10 and 12 or so. Most of this had more to do with the company I was keeping at the time on these trips and my state of mind.
I think the beaches you mention are almost certainly the prettiest, it doesn’t mean the others have brown sand and dirty water.

I'm not sure what he is talking about and I've been here 20 years. I'm not sure we have less homeless than before but you don't see them as often as you use to. They use to hang out on certain street corners and I don't ever see them there anymore. As for illegals they were worse for awhile when Biden was flying them here but since the e verify law was put into place it's not as rampant. I'm sure there are many other places way worse than here.

Siesta Key.
Also like how it’s located with the open water to the west, makes for those perfect sunsets from the beach view.

Obviously you haven't been to Georgia's Golden Isles.

Sure but that's the whole west coast up to the panhandle

Some days it looks like Destin area water, and some days it looks like Mobile Bay
Between the Mississippi River and Mobile Bay, a lot of freshwater pours into the gulf within 100ish miles of Perdido Pass. But that is also why the tuna, billfish and snapper fishing is so good. That is also why you can see the chocolate milk/cobalt blue river rips down there a little ways. Plus the wind tends to be from the SW during the summer. That blows a lot of dirty water towards OB.
And the tide has a huge impact in Orange Beach. An incoming tide can make Perdido Pass look like Destin. In the summer during a drought it can look like the bahamas. But during a rainy summer with an outgoing tide it will look like tea. August is usually brutal.
But either way there is a shark and a stingray waiting to kill you. All of you should just stay at home.

We did a half day fishing charter in Ft. Walton. Caught onto what was probably a Goliath grouper. Problem was you only fish a spot for half hour or so unless everyone else is catching fish, so guide said sorry boss and cut the line. We caught some decent reds, but what could’ve been. Also got introduced to Publix down there and lordy they have good shrimp.

Destin area and beaches are nice, but Gulf Shores/Orange Beach have the same beautiful white sands. I do not know what your problem is, or what axe you have to grind with the Alabama beaches, but you have some agenda or a bias that is driving your comparison between Destin and Gulf Shores.
Having visited beaches on the US West coast, US East coast and several places in the world I do agree with your comments relative to other beaches; none of them compare to the Gulf of Mexico beaches.

We usually go to 30A/Destin area every year, but my daughter wanted to try Cape San Blas this year. We didn't book it, but went back to our normal spot. Are the beaches and water comparable to 30A?
I’ve been to Ft Walton Beach, Pensacola Beach, Navarre, PCB, Destin, Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Fort Morgan, AL, Also Mexico Beach, Cape San Blas and St George Island, FL. I’ve found the sweet spot for clear emerald water is from PCB to Destin. It’s not an exact science but just my experience over 40 years. Anything west of Fort Morgan toward Mobile/ Biloxi and east of Mexico Beach, the water is hit or miss. It can sometimes look brackish or tea-colored.

If the captain cut the line , very , very likely.
Noticeable difference between the way a grouper and
shark plays.

Tell me you’ve never been to Naples, ClearWater, Sarasota or good SEFL beaches without telling me.
Every city you listed besides Key West is awful

Yea I like Orange beach and Gulf Shores. I've been to some good restaurants there and the beaches are nice. They have hangout fest which is really cool. I wish the would update the amphitheater. I've been to some good shows out there but I'm not hugely fond of it as compared to others. They just need to put a little money into upgrading it.

The GA and S. Carolina coastline is amazingly beautiful, but there ain’t no clear water at those beaches. The driftwood beach on Jekyll Island is a really cool place, one of my favorites.

Beautiful, yes. But frick me running... Have you ever had a mosquito bite on top of a mosquito bite? I have. It feels like a hypodermic needle entering you.

Myrtle beach is a dump compared to Destin. But Destin is a dump compared to parts of the Atlantic Coast of Florida. Go to the area south of St. Augustine and Destin looks like a trailer park.

Orange Beach has plenty of great places to eat with several restaurants boasting James Beard award winners.

Why can’t you get in the water at the California beaches?

Is south Padre included in this list? It's pretty nice.
