Heading up to Knoxville from Baton Rouge this weekend for my first away game which made me think about the question:
What campus in the SEC is the best visitor’s experience, and what campus in the SEC is the worst visitor’s experience?
What campus in the SEC is the best visitor’s experience, and what campus in the SEC is the worst visitor’s experience?

UT is in the midst of a pretty area. the campus, however, is the worst one I've been on in the SEC.

Last year. I would also put it near the bottom.

That would have put you here when the main strip of campus was still undergoing a 20 million dollar rennovation and everything looked like a giant dust bowl/construction site. That rennovation just finished a few months ago and has helped significantly. The lack of green space and space in general to expand, on top of campus not being the focal point of our downtown like it is in the majority of SEC cities/towns likely always prevents UT from being very high on these lists.
I will say this though, downtown Knoxville itself has never thrived more in my lifetime than it has the last 3 years. There's currently cranes in 4 separate areas of downtown from all of the new construction going up. Over 100+ restaurants/bars/clubs/lounges between the 4 main districts in downtown. Double digit breweries all within 10 minutes of downtown, many directly in downtown. 112+ miles of Urban greenways that run through downtown, A brand new downtown riverwalk park, Urban wilderness, etc.
Aesthetically, UTs campus itself isn't a top spot within the conference, but Knoxville itself and the area around downtown/campus is one of the better areas in the SEC (Assuming good weather that allows people to be out)
Gun to my head and I had to guess, I'd say that there's been roughly half a billion dollars dumped into Downtown Knoxville/Campus over the last few years when including both public and private investments.
(Before shot of the main strip of campus)
(After shot before all of the Greenery/Trees went in on the medians and sidewalks)

I thought we were talking about the actual campus. Not the areas surrounding the campus. I've been to Knoxville every other year since 2008, and all SEC campuses besides USC, Mizzou, and Texas A&M. UT is easily in the bottom 25%.

I agreed with you. I'm just pointing out that the areas directly surrounding/touching campus have quite a bit to offer -- Adding to the appeal of campus.

I'll take your word for it. 32" waist here.

Then sucks to be out of shape? Walking up hill isn't hard and it gives the campus topographical character (which a number of campuses lack). Besides, it's only really uphill from the stadium to North campus and downtown, where it plateaus. Everything else south of the stadium is fairly level.

I'll take your word for that too, I'm not out of shape.
I simply stated that you have to walk uphill to get around that campus. I don't see why you're taking it personally. Enjoy your "topographical character."
