Depends...

100 years ago, No...and if you disagree it is b/c you're uneducated on Maryland history and culture.

Today there are too many transplants and foreigners between D.C. and Baltimore just as there are in any other big city to ever be called "Southern"..

Go to the Eastern Shore or Southern Maryland and you will see old plantations and cypress trees, Episcopal Churches as you would see in the "Old South" of Tidewater VA, NC, SC, GA...

Western MD is West Virginia under a different Flag.

There are some southerners still in Maryland, but it's mostly Yankees. A lot of Federal Government stooges and stereotypes from "The Wire" up there.

As a whole, Maryland = yankee

I just asked 2 of the guys I work with from Maryland if they would consider it Southern and they said absolutely not.

They consider it East Coast

My family moved to Baltimore for about 5 years when I was a kid. Baltimore people like to think it is a southern city. The people think of themselves as southern. I remember my parents constantly laughing about it. Got the hell out of there.
