When I was a kid, the thought of Baylor outdoing us in FB/BB would have been unbelievable

Now Baylor has 2 conference championships in football and a Heisman winner. And a conference and NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP in basketball along with several elite eight/sweet 16 runs. All in the last 10 years.

Mizzou is the Washington State of the Midwest

No reason we could not be at the level of a Baylor or Gonzaga for fricks sake. We have had the wrong hires in Football minus Pinkel and I think Drink since Powers. In basketball it has benn a clusterfrick since NOrm, Snyder was just too early in his career but at least they swung for the fence there. Also huge failures at the AD level and frankly us fans are to blame for not expecting more. Only elite level coach we have had is really Smith in wrestling who has done an incredible job.

Gonzaga is an anomaly. They found the right coach who was willing to stay and build their program for decades, constantly turning down bigger offers. They also play in a weaker conference so they have the luxury of a nearly automatic bid to the tournament every year, which has helped their brand tremendously.

Few is 36-20 in the tournament in 22 years.

Martin is 3-4 in 13 years. Other than his 2013-14 Tennessee team, he has lost in the first round every other time he has made the tournament.

That is not an anomaly. College basketball is always about the right coach for the right school (same with football). If any school hires the right coach for them, they can win it all.

Good coaches can fail at good programs.

Do you really want to be Baylor good at football? That obviously took a lot of raping to be that good. Wild stab in the dark is basketball wasn't much different

Aye, Baylor has a lot of sleaze going on and no doubt infested their Bball program at some point.

For sure, but he's arguably the the best since Norm. 4 Tournament appearances in his first 4 years with an Elite 8 run, 2 1st round wins, and only 1 first round exit. Followed by 2 NIT bids, and a bad start and a really young team (fired). That was when the Big 12 was at its height, and they were always competitive 9-7, only one 7-9 conference record.

Suitcase Mike was basically the reverse with 1.5 less seasons. 2 no bid seasons followed by 3 tournament appearances with an Elite 8 run.

Quin is a great basketball mind, but probably needed a little more seasoning and guidance. Best since Norm though IMO

Baylor stuck by their coach the first 5 years probably because they knew no one wanted the job. After that his teams got better and better. His recruiting isn't remarkable, but he recruits long, athletic guys, mostly 3 stars and a few 4 stats. We should be able to recruit that same kid to Mizzou.

You are probably right. That is why there are have been so many teams that have been in the playoffs.

Basketball is possible but if we are being honest, being elite in football is pretty much impossible without offering something horrific like Baylor did. The status quo just has so much more to offer of the illegal variety, like bagmen, than Mizzou.

This is the correct answer. Mizzou Athletics would be in a better place without her.
