Agree to a point. We need an efficient offense with some balance run by an OC that can recognize tendencies and what the opposing defense is trying to do and react accordingly.

Then you have an offense like Auburn's in the SEC Champ Game way back when that is smartly willing to run the same play 25 times if the defense refuses to stop it. That is your "game day" presence.

However, if we want to be a regular competitor for a playoff spot and playoff run, we need an OC that has some imagination or innovation (whatever you call it) that can scheme up something in a dog fight against the elite teams to give your offense 4-5 chances to surprise them for a big play.

I don't think MU will ever be able to recruit well enough to construct a Bo Schembechler/Les Miles/NU offense that can win big. You have to have overwhelming talent to have a "We are going to do what we do" approach.

I don't if any teams will be able to do that again in the NIL era.

Not gonna lie, I see Gabe a few times a month in the steam room, I'll be sure to let him air it all out.

I think they need an aggressive passing game to marry with the running game. Drink has talked about a vertical passing game since he was hired but sans 2023, it has never made it on to the field. Its pretty clear that the fastball is all Zollers has right now and he kept calling the offspeed stuff into tight coverage. He hired an OC that has made his team less explosive at every stop. The lack of QB development over the entirety of his career at Mizzou is absurd. They have recruited multiple 4* QBs and have put noodle arm 3*s on the field. There's no more benefit of the doubt.

I watched the Monday night game last night and Sean McVay schemed a JAG into a wide open touchdown (a drag route broken off with a cut to the back pylon) and was left wondering if anyone on Mizzou's offensive staff watches these games and a light bulb goes off to add them to the play book? Is it that hard?

We had the money to get Chip Kelly and still hired the wrong Chip.

Thanks Eli

Play calling certainly has to be better but the QBs have to be developed properly. The only QB that has read winning ques and threw with anticipation consistently was Bazelak. He had arguably the least talented skill group to throw to since Pinkel's first season but he usually got rid of the ball on time. Cook struggled with it during SEC play and outside of the kU game, Beau didn't do it at all. Zollers missed a bunch of easy throws in the bowl game. It just looked like they wasted the entire month with him. I hope Lindsey sends Gleeson down the road. That guy is a fried a-hole on a cracker.

Looks encouraging to me. With a bad QB, their offense still looks light years more competent than ours.

The kid is a true freshman. Zollars didn't look good either, most freshman dont.
