Now that it's confirmed that Brantley will be fine and likely make a full recovery we can talk about the impact to the team.

I'd be very surprised if he plays this year. That's 1/2 of our starting DL gone before fall camp even starts. Add this in with the JUCOs not being here yet, depth issues at RB, no experience at WR and an off and on QB....I'm just not very optimistic about the season anymore.

Thoughts?

TBJ, Hatley, Augusta, Logan step on up.

Actually depends oh what ligament is injured & requiring surgery. ACL he is done for the year. If something else it's possible he's back by October. No way of knowing until we know which ligament & the severity.

I don't think this changes anything. We are Dline-U. Next guy steps up.

I sure hope you are right, but those guys were starting for a reason.

Not to mention, it's just one of several issues we have:

I would imagine we will see more of Beckner than we initially thought.I am not very optomistic either this year.Depth at multiple positions is really going to be tested.

We lose versatility with the loss of Brantley. He can play inside and DE. Augusta, Hatley and TBJ solidify the interior. TBJ coming in with Div 1 size really helps.

I guess it depends if Frazier comes in ready to play. He was a really good JUCO DE. It would also be nice if Augusta could loose 30 lbs to play more snaps. Walter Brady should be around 260-265 so he has the size, but I haven't heard much about his progress. Has anyone heard anything?

Really need Augusta and Harris to live up to their apparent potential this season. With a healthy Brantley, we were just hoping those two would figure it out as the season went along, showing glimpses early and getting more consistent as the season went along.
Now, we will need them to get out there and cause havoc themselves from the first game on, period. It would also be nice if Logan or Hatley really bring more to the table than anything up to this point has indicated.

I think this moves us solidly into an expected 2nd or 3rd place in the East. What that translates to in the end will be, of course, determined by the team.

My wild guess, he MIGHT make it back for a bowl game. My second guess, there goes an East three-peat. And I was really enjoying my Mizzou Kool-Aid this summer.

Next man up!

I agree. I'm thinking we are staring at 3rd or 4th place in the East now. Just too many question marks at this point to overlook.

Any thoughts to moving Crawford back to the defensive side? I know he was impressing on the OL but at this point I'm wondering if we're better served with him on the DL and providing some depth. The biggest problem we face is that one injury at DT at this point and I think we're starting to give walk ons playing time.

We certainly lose some production and effectiveness by losing Brantley. There was a reason he was going to leave early for the draft. I'm a huge TBJ fan but there's still no question that a team with Brantley, Hatley and TBJ is better than a team with Hatley and TBJ. The real test is going to be on the DB's for sure. I just don't see much of a pash rush with the guys we're talking about. Maybe in a year or two but not this coming up year.

Just furthers my idea of Eric Beisel to DE. Obviously this is a big blow, but the DLine wasn't the position that our season was hinging upon. That would be Maty and the receivers. Plus, back 7 should be real solid on D.

Hope he can make a recovery for 2nd half of season. Not sure with the ligament damage...but if not too serious, that would be an absolutely huge addition midseason.

I'm not ready to throw in the towel for 1 reason...The schedule is in our favor. Also we played last year with no offense. I gotta believe Mauk steps up this year. Even if just to keep our defense off the field. Even with Brantley, we needed more from the offense, and I believe that Pinkel has been preparing that offense to contribute more in 2015.

I'm not throwing in the towel on anything either. I think it just became a lot more difficult and where it will hit us big time is if we have 1 more guy on the interior of that line go down. I was looking for a big year from the middle of the line this year as opposed to the edges. Now, I'll be happy with "just don't be a gaping hole of nothingness" up the middle. Do better than that and Mizzou will be fine.

The X factor in all of this is Odom. I followed what he did at Memphis, and I think he will end up being a great DC. The back 7 should be really good & we still have Kool.

So 1 DT is the difference from a 3-peat to 4th place?

If you follow Mizzou football, Dline is one place that doesn't scare me all that much with injuries. QB, WR, safety, those scare me.

As many people have stated, "next man up". Kul will have them ready.

73 Days.

Lets go.

Does this mean we won't redshirt TBJ this season and give him some snaps?

I'd be shocked if they red-shirted him before the accident.

TBJ will play and will probably end up starting and getting a majority of the snaps. I think Hatley, while solid, is a career backup, spelling the starters. Unless he goes back outside, but I don't know if we can afford that numbers wise at this point.
