The 1 thing i like about the AD is he really gets corporate NIL/Donor support.

I believe Franklin will be top of list because his name prevents any corporate backslide. But Franklin will have to have an OC plan. He has missed on that hire a few times.

I like a Joe Jon Finley return as OC. 2nd is Nix from Auburn.

I'm getting cold on any AD making hires. They have their place in the process, but too many make their choice of coach and then sky out for other jobs. They have no skin in the game or accountability. Many will parrot the same retread names over and over.

A committee of people that have been here, and will still be here 5 years from now is best imo. The boosters should have a say to. It could be tough to get all those moving parts to agree on a hire though.

I've been looking at Bob Chesney, currently at James Madison.

The AD will have to get the OK from Sunvold and his committee. That's what happened when we got Drink. Sunvold rejected the first uninspired list.

Thank you I see how it works now. It is still a crap shoot but I like who is holding the dice.

I don't want Drink to leave but he would be doing us a favor if he leaves next week.

He will take players with him and the new coach needs time to recover from that. Some teams might lose their coach in late December/January and that will be a nightmare for them.

Tim McKernan of 101 ESPN, St. Louis devoted an entire segment to Drink to Penn State this morning. I've timestamped this to the discussion. Crib Notes: The Gabe Dearmand of Penn State says they've set their focus on Drinkwitz.

FWIW... On a semi-related note I have a friend with connections who was told his wife wants to stay.

Crazy OC idea, the guy is a piece of shite but can run an offense, Petrino. With a competent OC we would be looking at a 2nd straight playoff this year.

Petrino would kill fundraising. Donors would go into "wait and see" mode. Mizzou is not a program that can afford that. Our success is predicated on our money. Much like Ole Miss, A&M and Oregon. Any interruption in cash and we become irrelevant again quickly.

The next coach will have the blessing of the corporate donors, there is no other way.

Would Nick Petrino from Missouri State be seen as toxic as his Dad.

Obviously comes from that coaching tree. MO State has (amazingly IMO) had a successful year so far after jumping a whole level to D1 (Conf USA). And their offense has led the way.

Kind of a "How enamored are you with B. Petrino's offensive success?" suggestion.

Drink has raised the program expectations and profile. Taking the Missouri State coach is a letdown. Losing our coach to PSU is a big deal for Mizzou. Shows we are doing something right.

Also we've become accustomed to top 25 recruiting. Anyone want to go back to the days of 1, 4 star recruit? We need a coach who expects to land blue chips or NIL donations will dwindle.

Remember A&M trying to hire Stoops? Once the Boosters got wind of it, that offer was quickly rescinded. We aren't A&M but sentiment is still the same. People donate to be a part of something great. It's not about sport. The Cardinals and Chiefs take care of that.

I was suggesting N. Petrino as an OC candidate sold as an up and comer from a proven coaching tree. I thought Tackle was talking OC candidates.

Oh, sorry, I thought you meant HC. Can Petrino go on the road and land blue chip QB talent is the question. The OC is the most important coach when it comes to QBs.

So the wife wants to stay?

I have zero inside information other than what we have already talked about. He gets paid well. No crazy expectations. Just needs to get a new OC.

If he chases other jobs outside of the SEC then he is no different than Lincoln Riley IMO. Trying to go somewhere else where it would be easier to win. The bottom of the big 10 is not like the bottom of the SEC. He would be running from that 9 game SEC schedule.

Being an older guy, you realize how important fit is in a job. I’m in the best job of my entire life and it’s nothing anyone would say “That’s where I want to be” from the outside.

It’s easy to chase that extra 10-15% in compensation or a higher profile job. But it doesn’t usually work out the way you thought it would.

I think Drinkwitz is uniquely positioned for success at Mizzou. And he won’t get the same leash or latitude at any of the jobs at Florida, LSU or Penn State.

But agents don’t get paid on people staying put in the same way they get paid on movement.

Out of curiosity, I looked up state tax rates and Pennsylvania’s top state tax rate is only 3.07% versus 5.4% in Missouri. That’s two hundred racks at 10 milly.

One of his daughters is at the same private H.S. as my daughter, Father T., both him and his wife are very active in their children’s lives and donate time & treasure to support their kids, they’re good people.

That being said they’re both Midwest born & bred and money doesn’t buy happiness nor does Happy Valley.

If you want corporate support, let's kick the tires on Saban.

Not a Saban fan. Pre NIL, swap Pinkel for Saban and both schools end up about the same. Saban had so many advantages at Alabama but is treated as the second coming. Hate him on game day but enjoy the digs about him paying players.

I agree with his being positioned for success here (hell, he's been having it), but when I see how some fans are reacting to our losses this year I wonder how long the leash would actually be. Two sub .500 years in a row? He'd get more than that as a honeymoon period elsewhere.

And I'll be honest, the nine game SEC schedules concern me. Drink was correct about this being his most talented team, yet the quarterback position continues undermining ultimate success. Given how quickly the portal can enhance or gut a team's nucleus, Drink has to get the quarterback spot right or we're in for trying times starting next season.

The other thing I wonder about (and wish I could remember where I saw or read it) was Drink may use the interest as leverage. Leverage for what? I don't think he thinks he needs more money for himself. He received more money for his assistants and has overseen practice and stadium upgrades. What's left? More NIL? Are there reliable statistics on where we rank in the conference? Many questions.
