We as fans need to back off...I get it social media gives us a voice that maybe wasn't heard before, but I promise you whether it's good or bad, the only voice that is felt is the worst of all of us. Ennis for example was absolutely destroyed by fans over the play on Saturday...we need to back off and trust the program and trust they are doing everything they can to improve the situation.

Tough ask I know, but fans should not be tweeting shite at players like the shite that's been thrown at this kid.
We as a fanbase need to step back and understand the role we play in the success of our program. We are shitty fans and need to do better. Spare me the comments about the history, how awful it's been, cursed and all that, we give up at one hint of adversity. Grow some balls and support our team and our school...WE are a big part of the problem and the attitudes I see here every day just proves it further. I will not lie, I succumb to is as well, but we have to bring more passion than ever and rise above and trust that the folks actually making decisions are doing everything they can.

Missouri is the show me state..we all expect to be shown, but we have to show up as well as fans and we are among the most fair-weather in all of sports. We are great at bitching and tearing down when things are soft (which is by the way when our teams need us most) and the first to celebrate a big win. We have more influence than many believe and our shite behavior ensures a self fulfilling prophecy of perpetual dysfunction.

Discuss.

You can’t control how one handles or engages any situation in life, social media may have gave this a larger platform but this has been a truth for a long time.

One thing I do think through that you highlighted with kids thinking about what school they will attend is the overall experience. It is something that matters. So it puts us in a precarious situation. The big names and higher rated players are comparing environments at SEC venues that are packed to capacity with a defined home field advantage versus what we currently are showing.

It sucks because it’s a chicken and egg situation. We don’t have a good product so you are asking a lot for fans to commit financially and emotionally, but without the environment we are costing the potential future of the program by what we currently display. It also doesn’t help when the announcers also highlight how quiet or underwhelming our stadium is to potential recruits who are not even physically there.

It's not fair-weather as much as it is Missourians have options.

In most SEC states the sports attending options are: 1) college team, 2) smaller college team. In Missouri the options start with 1) the Cardinals and Chiefs, 2) the Blues and Royals, then 3) college team. The competition for the sporting dollar and eyeballs is simply more intense.

Obviously the pecking order is different for each fan but the point stands that Missourians have options. And I highly doubt Missouri will ever have true SEC passion and attendance unless they can convince the students and those within 50 miles of the campus to view the Tigers as their team and provide the bulk of in-person attendance, especially in lean times.

As far as people attacking kids on social media, I agree with you. It's bad form, classless and should stop.

Agree with all of that. But it’s actually not as bad at Mizzou as it is at some of the blue bloods outrecruiting us.

Does anyone think Tennessee fans or LSU fans wouldn’t be all over a kid who looks like they loafed on a TD run like that? Because they would.

Gonna take it we all know free speech blah blah blah. Having said that no one should be attacking players directly. Those people are pussies and asshats who would never say it to the man’s face.

There is a difference between apathy and being a miserable human being. Apathy means I’m not buying tickets to watch a poor product though I will watch and root for them. No where close to being on par with dogging a player directly.

Great post! And, very well said. No one should be going on Twitter and rag on a player. Remember, these are just kids, folks!

I can’t blame anyone for being angry or apathetic or any of that with Mizzou. The school has literally given us nothing to cheer for on the field since 2014. That is unless you get excited for an 8-5 football season or an 8-9 seed in the NCAA tournament.

To add insult to injury, they can’t quit embarrassing themselves off the field either.

There’s no reason for a casual fan/non-alum in Missouri to support this school.

I'm definitely apathetic towards this season. It's going to be a long time to get the defense back to being competitive.

And as far as apathy and passion go...what is a guy like me supposed to do? I live 8+ hrs from Columbia. They moved the Arkansas game to KC, which was much closer. Eventually they will play in Norman, which is feasible for me. Am I not loud enough when I cuss at the TV?
