Bad year for "names". Plenty of good coaches out there.

It's the ADs job to work with corporate donors. It's the reason Veatch was hired after his success with landing Fed Ex for Memphis. If Drink wants to help with that, then he does it behind the scenes like every other HC. It's only losers like Stoops who chastise their programs publicly.
Drink was being interviewed following a win, senior day and a 300 yard rusher and he took the opportunity to put big donors on blast for no reason. He wasnt being asked about financial support, he made an issue where there wasnt one. Also he did it standing in front of a 250 million dollar renovation that is fully funded.
People aren't stupid. A week before that game, Drink made a comment about the CFB playoff not making or breaking a season. That comment did not play well with the boosters at PSU. So Drink tried to change the narrative to insinuate there wasn't enough financial support at Mizzou. That his NIL success was due to him spending "smart." He did this because he's being sold to PSU as someone that can coach better with PSUs resources and its Mizzous lack of resources that is holding him back.
I agree, a month ago Mizzou shouldn't look to replace Drink. But he fired the first shot at Mizzou. And it was unnecessary and out of line.

To answer your concerns about an extension for Drink. I get your concern about more money. But the proposed extension wasn't so much about a raise, it was...
1. Make his buyout punitive. His buyout is tiny. What Mizzou wanted was a buyout in the area of 25- 30 million to make him harder to poach and send a message that he was committed to Mizzou.
2. Increase his line item budget to allow him to steal a OC. Not just hire someone available. I heard rumors the expectation was as high as 3 million.

Colossal waste of an elite defense, easy schedule, great running backs and solid receiving group. I don’t care if drink leaves or gets fired but it is a terrible year to be finding a coach. But this might be the new normal moving forward in this playoff age.

Yeap. That’s the narrative he’s selling.

Which (if what I saw was correct and he has a larger coaching pool than PSU gave Franklin) is stupid of him to do.

It’s not stupid in his mind because he believes it.

He goes to PSU he'll be coaching at a directional school in 5 years.

If he stays here and doesn't get things straightened out he'll be coaching one after 3.
And unless his supporters are a silent majority he might as well leave and beat the hangman's rope.
So if he moves on what's a realistic short list?

I don't really want to think about a total rebuild. If Drink leaves, I got a feeling that is exactly what we're looking at in terms of staff and roster.
That thought depresses me, but I'm ready to bring on an offensive dude if Drink bolts. Somebody with more balls than brains (at times) so that if we lose, at least it won't be in a rock fight like yesterday.

I was a Washington State fan yesterday, because they were beating James Madison. If JM can get knocked out of the CFP, then I believe Chesney gets offered the PSU job. PSU may write off this recruiting class and wait for him even if he goes to the CFP.
If this happens, how do we view Drink when he comes back with his tail between his legs?

Drink needed to reaffirm his commitment to Mizzou weeks ago. Now, he's just another panhandling ho in my eyes.

Lane Kiffin does something and Eli tries his best to emulate it. It's lame.

He’s Mizzou football’s version of Travis Ford.

Best recruiter in Mizzou history coming off back to back 10 win seasons, his team always fight hard. He is hampered by a horrid OC. I would demand he replace Moore and Link. If his next OC is a train wreck the upcoming schedule will be his undoing. Oh and this is the worst year I can remember to be looking for a coach.
This.
If he gets a new OC and a QB coach the Tigers should roll.
Assuming we don't lose the D coordinator. I can see that happening.

These coaches are hilarious.
“I’ve worked mah fingas to da bone…. And all tha fans is mad.”
Yeah bro. You’re making millions per year to win football games.
I had an absolute laughing spasm watching Chris Klieman “break down” after his team folded like a church fellowship hall chair. Bro has a $44M contract and wants me to feel bad for him.

Im frustrated with Drink but got to admit "panhandling ho" Never entered my mind. Well done.

If that happens, how does Drink view himself? Will he realize he needs to make changes to become more attractive to what he views as major jobs?
Were PSU to hire him this cycle, I can't help but think he goes into the new job with a "my shite don't stink" attitude, and continue with the same lame offensive mindset that is costing him support here. And that would doom him to a very short stint at PSU.
What he might see as a rejection or of being passed over might be the best thing that could happen both for him and us, if he learns from it.
If.

Penn State is honestly the worst place he could go, IMO.
And that’s because he’s a lot like Franklin. Good defense. Unimaginative offense. No big wins.
They would be asking themselves why they fired Franklin for a white, slightly more quotable version of Franklin.

PSU thought the minute they fired Franklin, Cignettis agent would be calling. Then it was Elko. They were name hunting. They flew a trial balloon on Diaz, meh. Kiffin never considered, so about 4-5 weeks ago social media warmed to Drink. Then Mizzou started losing. So the narrative became Drink is a winner if he has PSU money behind him. But now the socials are starting to tout Chesney. Drink could get pushed to the side. He's waiting for Kiffin to set the market, but Chesney may be in negotiations by next week.
