I don't know what Franklin did to you I the past, but a snake can't rebuild PSU after Sandusky. The guy was there 11 years following a Pedo scandal. He recruited at a high level year after year despite that scandal.
His 1 fault was letting the Oregon OT loss break his team.

Leipold? Just smoked by KState and losing recruits. No thanks.

Does it really bother you that I think he's a bad idea?

Kiffin and Drink are mentioned in every coaching search. Why? Both are younger, have an edgy sense of humor, strong social media presence creating results through the portal. Neither is a savant with x and o’s. Their success is recruiting talent, players and coaches. Franklin may recruit well when Penn st is on front of jersey but not sure he could do the same elsewhere. He did well at Vandy but that was a different era. I just don’t see the drive in these older established coaches needed at a program like ole miss or Mizzou.

Guy does a hell of a job coaching up his 60th ranked recruiting ...
Granted Kansas is a tough sell and their NIL is non existent outside of basketball.
Top choice would be Sumrall, btw

If Drink leaves, it's because of what I said in the PSU thread and the self fulfilling policy of the "woe is me" Missouri fan where we don't think we can ever win. We got a great glimpse of it in the Vandy game. "lose by a half yard" and mentions of the north endzone bullshite curse. Fanbase is snakebitten but wants to be good. Expect this dude to stay because we've set it up for him to be the first real national championship coach at Mizzou and he wants to do that because we've made it easier than anyone else to have the opportunity.
Cubs curse shite only works when they're lovable losers. Mizzou fans aren't lovable losers. We need to win and Drink is the one to do it. Not because he's great, but because winning makes everything you do okay and we've set him up for everything he does to be okay when it comes to paying high schoolers or getting facilities. I love this man until he shits on us and leaves and I know he won't do that. Only difference between us and blueblood is history and shitty cursestricken fans and weve set a fence around the state of Missouri (including LOTO) that is a huge advantage.

Maybe its because I look at it from a donor perspective not just a fan. It's not Drinks sense of humor, its his recruiting chops and he has money to back him. Same with Kiffin, he's been buying a defensive line the past 2 years including the number 1 DT.
The overwhelming hope is Drink stays. The donors believe in him. If he leaves, a G5 replacement will set us back. Franklin has the name and CFP experience to keep the money flowing. The only thing keeping Mizzou and Ole Miss at the front of the line is donor money. Neither program has won a damn thing, this is not the time to cause any doubt among donors. Go with the guy who keeps the recruits and money flowing.

If I was Drink, I would think long and hard before considering LSU or Florida. Some of the day to day things might be easier because of name on jersey but the clock ticks much faster for results.
Drink is positioned well at Mizzou. Talent in state, location allows him to recruit from Sec, Big 10, Big 12 states. If he does leave, I hope we examine what things worked for him when reviewing candidates.

Also a donor and how he plays this will probably flavor my future opinion of him. Shouldn't do too much talking, and he's played it well so far in the face of lots of great opportunity. Not that I would expect much else.

Like I said the overwhelming hope is that he stays. He is making the donors happy and that's what counts. Think about it, Mizzou pulls one hell of a portal class, and no one even asks how much it cost. We lost Nwanieri and people were like "who?" In the past, if we lost a 5 star it would have been devastating. We got Hardy, he bought his mom a house and 3 horses for himself, and it doesn't phase us at all. Drink got Breaking Bad cash.

Why would he take the job? Is it really a safe and an enjoyable HC job at Florida and LSU?

Wouldn't say that, but it can be that in the future. Lots of untapped potential out there. We've got location in the SEC (and the state tbh) against us, but winning cures all and I trust Drink to do it more than anyone else on the board if he were to dip out on us.
Changing the culture takes time, Pink was there and we fricked up that whole transition. Stronger now.

Leipold is a good hire if this was coming off the Odom firing. I don’t think he’s a good hire with how our last few years have gone. Can do way better. He’s a good coach tho

They can put people on lists all they want. Will coaches take a job in the SEC, especially a Big6 job with the crazy fans, when they are going right into the teeth of a 9 game SEC schedule?
Alabama and Texas had close calls last week. There is parity in the league. Everyone saw how crazy Alabama fans got when they lost to FSU.
It seems like a reckless move to take a Big 6 job now. Too much of a chance to fall flat on your face.
ACC or Big10 is the best choice. I could also see the man from Alma go home with the protection of a 10 year contract. I hope that does not happen of course.

One of the fascinating aspects of going to 9 is will fans adjust their expectations and will the CFB ranking committee actually reward strength of schedule over straight W-L records?
You know they'll bend over backwards for Notre Dame, but will they take a three loss SEC over a 2 loss B1G, ACC or XII who cruised through on cupcakes? I'll have to see it to believe it.

I'm as big of a Drink fan as there is (pun intended), but if he's given a fair offer and still leaves, he didn't fall in love with Mizzou. I want our coach to have the same love for this place that I do. We'll see.

I think Drink sticks around. As wild as CFB is with NIL and pay to play, look at coaching salaries. Odom was making $3MM when canned, 6 years later we are almost to $10MM for Drink. Bro needs to hang on to what he has here and give it a few more cycles to get his ultimate goal. Either way, it's a two way street and fanbase can also turn...it's a cutthroat business, just maybe a bit less at ol Mizzou. As others have said, with all of the openings, now is an excellent time to preach committed and stable coached, family atmosphere, etc. to recruits. You could literally tell HS kids, "you sure you want to go to FL, AU, OU, etc. and have a new coach once if not twice in your career there?"
