They finished a game out of the WC in 2016 and 4 games out in 2017.

They won 8 games in interleague play both of those seasons. Finish .500 vs the AL in both seasons and they are in the postseason. They got hammered last night vs a shite Minnesota team. Gant is turd so I wasn't shocked.

They should have made Carpenter get his shoulder repaired. That $13.5 mill is tough to swallow but he has 3 holes in his swing right now instead of the normal one.

Fowler and Gyrko were awful signings.

So recap

WS
NLCS
NLCS
NLDS
1 Game Out
4 Games Out

Definition of regression.

I thought we were talking ball.

My mistake.

Gryko was a trade. I’d much rather have him than Jay.

For a team that is struggling for hits, why Gryko has been played like a spare part is beyond me.

Huh? Jedd has been solid since he got here as a super utility.

Fowler was a garbage signing though.

And now Ozuna doesn’t look like much.

As I said. Team is without a true super star position player.

Gyorko has been really good and probably our best hitter right now. I've complained about Fowler since day one though. People can complain about Mike all they want, but when Fowler is your big off season signing that's an issue imo.

We are talking ball man, I just don't get the Matheny defenders. Why does Mabry still have a job? I blame the front office for a lot of the decline, but his management of the team and especially the bullpen has left me wondering if this is his last season.

I keep hearing St. Louis is a medium to small market team and that makes it hard to pay free agent players or players to stay.

We have the Fan-Base and money to pay players. We need a cornerstone/superstar to be like the Pujols teams that won 2 World Series. Cardinals need to trade or sign to get that player.

Ozuna is not a superstar, but he can be that player like Rolen and Edmunds was to Pujols. Dexter was good in Chicago mainly because of the players behind him in the line-up. Having players behind him will make him what we signed him for.

Carpenter has been the most disappointing player the last two years. He is below average in defense and teams have learned how to pitch him. He hasn’t made adjustments or tweaked his approach.

Matheny is a average manager with a average team. He makes mistakes like every manager. He needs players and the front office to spend money.

Mabry became the hitting coach for the 2013 season. In that season players like Carpenter’s average and others was above average.

Since 2015 hitters have adjusted their launch angle. This has caused in a result in fewer line drive hits and ground ball hits. Mabry is a old school, but his players have changed from hitting the top half of the ball to a hitting lower on the ball. This has caused lower batting averages for line drive hitters and has caused more strike outs, fly outs, and ground outs.

It is not something a hitting coach can change when the players are convinced hitting at a higher launch angle makes them a better hitter.

This is not something that is happening just at the major league level. It is also changing at every level of baseball.

Until players change back to hitting at a lower launch angle this will hurt players like Fowler and Carpenter.

It looks like Carpenter may have figured it out. He's trying to hit away from the shift a little and hitting line drives again.

Between the additions of Mikolas, Flaherty, and (soon) Reyes to the starting staff along with O'Neil and Bader pushing the incumbents for playing time in the outfield, this group definitely has the feeling of a playoff team. Maybe even a pennant or WS winner.

Just kidding y'all, good series. You've got a lot more to look forward to than we do.

I sure am glad Holland only got a one year deal. Too bad Fowler is on the booka for 3 more years though.

So sad when you have lights out starting pitching and zero offense or bullpen. Dudes are being left out to dry.

Holland to the DL. That makes the bullpen a little better. Maybe he can get his shite together in a long rehab assignment.

Can Fowler follow? I’d like to see O’Niell and Mercado share OF duties.

Also. This organization is a turd sammich if Flaherty doesn’t remain an SP fixture the rest of the season.

The rest of the season the pitching staff will be on a tight pitch count except for Mikolas.

The Cardinals might have a six man rotation or one more in the bullpen and one less bench player.

I like our bench now with O’Neil and Bader, but I don’t know if we can keep them both up.

I can't stand that they have Carpenter back in the lead-off slot. Glad he's hitting, but he's a base running liability and has nowhere near Pham's speed and ability to pressure a defense on the basepaths. If he had any semblance of bat control I'd consider batting him 2nd, but as a dead pull hitter with no speed that's out.

They also need Ozuna to regain his power stroke or they'll conintue to struggle scoring runs.

I've never been fond of line-up talk to the point of fatigue, but I'd be hitting them...

1. CF Pham
2. RF Bader (rotation)
3. 1B Martinez
4. LF Ozuna
5. 2B/3B Gyroko
6. 3B/2B Carpenter
7. SS
8. C

Pham, Martinez, Ozuna and Gryoko would be the only locks at 1-3-4-5 when playing. The rest could rotate based on match-up and include O'Neil, Fowler, Bader, Wong, etc.

When all hands are on deck I'd like to keep the same with Molina 6th or 7th and I guess DeJong 8th.

I would like to see Ozuna batting 2nd. His power numbers are down and right now he is not a threat in the 4 hole. Bader has more HR’s than Ozuna.

The only reason I think Carp is the best option at lead off is his walks and seems to be spraying the ball more.

3. Pham
4. Martinez/Gyorko
5. DeJong
6. Molina
7. Wong
8. Fowler

The Cardinals dont have much speed. Keeping it at the bottom of the order allows for more sacrifices for pitchers and gives the top of the lineup more RBI opportunities.

If Wong and Fowler would bunt more and was able to play small ball I could see them higher in the lineup.

Fowler and Ozuna has been bad trades so far. I would rather have O’neill and Bader in the outfield right now.

I’m not going to complain to much because with the players in the lineup, young pitchers, sketchy bullpen, and injuries the team should be under .500.

I’m not a big fan of Matheny, but even with what seems to be bad bullpen decisions he has kept the team winning.
