I would agree with that. Playoff good though? I dunno.

Is there potential there? Absolutely. But you are talking about limitless talent that has yet to consistently show itself, a first year starter, a never has been a starter, a first year starter and a Japanese starter. If by good you mean playoffs, there are a lot of unknowns there, regardless of potential.

Agree 100%. I'm holding out hope that a deal was made. Let me start the home opener one last time and I'll quitely move to the bull pen during the season.

How bad are the Reds this year
Posted on 4/14/18 at 1:57 pm to TigerCruise
THEY will lose 100+.
That pitching is laughably bad. Our SP kinda sucked under Jocketty too. Better pitchers and that team wins more than 1 together.

Wong played well last year. Hopefully he wakes up soon though.

Reedus I agree about the cornerstone player the cards need. I think MO thought we had that with Oscar Taveras.
If Machado is willing to sign in St. Louis they should open the bank. The Yankees will not pay Stanton, Machado, and probably Bryce Harper.
He would be our cornerstone player for at least 6 to 7 years. He would cost between $35 to 40 million a year. With the young starting pitching we have coming up we could afford it for 5 to 6 years.
Possible starting pitchers in 2020:
Cmart
Reyes
Hicks
Hudson
Weaver
Flaherty

Please no. Love the guy, but I'd be shocked if he stayed in STL after this season.

I didn’t mean to trade for him now. I meant sign him after the season. If they could sign and trade now is the only way I would it be in favor for a trade.
It would probably be just another Heyward if we traded for him now without a sign and trade

Mikolas looks like a solid pickup.
He’s a ballsy bulldog.
Easy replacement for Lynn.
ETA: Holland is hot garbage.

And the rest of the bullpen is just as bad as last year.

Bud Norris should be the 9th inning guy for now. The loss tonight is not on Holland it is on the coaching staff and the two errors in the 9th.
Holland even has admitted he doesn’t have his good stuff back yet. He is not ready for save opportunities and he may not be all season.
Hicks is a 7th inning guy because he only has two good pitches. He is on the team because they didn’t want to waste options on other pitching prospects. He has good stuff but he needs another year in the minors to work on a good third pitch.
Hicks 7th inning
Holland 7th inning for now
Bowman 7th inning or a long reliever
Leone 8th inning
Gregerson 8th inning
Norris 9th inning
Lyons whenever he is needed
The rest of the pen should be long relievers along with Bowman

My appetite for going to bed with a lead and waking with, “What the frick?” being my first words is diminishing.

Yesterday was a good game. It’s the opposite of what has been happening early this season. It’s even better when it comes against the Cubs.
Bad news from the last two games is the injuries. Losing Molina will hurt the worse, but getting to see the future catcher will help the team. Carson Kelly as been catching most of the younger pitchers for a few years and should have a good rapport.
Losing Pham will hurt, but Bader has shown he is ready to play. The more he is able to play as a replacement for Pham it will make him a better player coming off the bench the rest of the season.
Bud Norris not being able to pitch for few days will really hurt the bullpen.
Losing Leone shouldn’t hurt

Just to give you a taste of Chicago life...
Me and the wife had a weekend without the kids so we spent the time downtown. Friday night we were at a packed pizza place and between 8 tv's two of them were on the Cards/Cubs game. The other 6 were spread out between playoff basketball and hockey.
Sometime in the 5th inning the 2 tv's with the Cards/Cubs game was switched to the basketball game. And not one person said a word. I looked at my wife rolled my eyes and said "hurry up and finish your drink we're leaving".
It is crazy the amount of people who claim to be fans, but if they aren't actually going to the game they don't care.

Only reason people went to Wrigley for 100 years was to drink beer. Then being a Cubs fan became a fad because in the new America it's some hipster douche movement to like losers and drink shitty beer.
3-5 years the same thing that happened in Boston after Epstein will happen in Chicago. The dude can't sustain teams, he can only build them through tanking. Their pitching situation isn't great, they're stuck with Heyward and his nonexistent offense, and they won't be able to afford half their lineup in a couple years. Cubs window is open, but I doubt it stays open long.

This is the best team chemistry-wise I've seen in a long time. They're having fun and finding ways to win. Losing Molina will hurt, but if they continue to show the resilience they have thus far and weather this stretch I think they'll be playing October baseball.

I haven't liked or been to a game since Whitey Herzog was the manager. They had some great moments under LaRussa, but they have been a bore since he left. I give you guys credit for your dedication to the game and the Cards.

NLCS in 2012.
Division title and World series in 2013
Division title and NLCS in 2014
Division title and NLDS in 2015
Missed playoffs in 2016-17
Currently leading the NL Central by 1 game.
They went to the playoffs 4 out of the last 6 years and are playing pretty good ball late in games so far this year.
I'll take it.

Pretty obvious and painful regression there. I don't really blame 100% on Matheny, but the front office has sat on their hands or "whiffed" more in the last 3 years than I can ever remember. Ozuna was a good pickup, but they need to make a decision on Carpenter/Fowler/Gyrko.
