There's no right answer when a coach denies rumors that he's interested in another job.

There's nothing he's ever said more cringe worthy than his comments about receiving death threats, and then the UAA's statement about it. All you could do is shake your head.

Really?

If we really want to be objective about McElwain, I think we can all agree every one of his press conferences has been cringe-worthy.

I disagree, respectfully.

''That's a silly question that I'm not even going to entertain. My heart and home is in Florida.''

That is, if he actually thought that.

I would like to know who the players were . If it’s suspended players then they may want to interview some posters on here. Some of these guys expected to go 11-1 and are blaming the bad year on the suspended players.

Folks need to put themselves in other peoples shoes. Its the fricking lunatic fringe that the world has too many of these days. See yourself as a HC and your family gets death threats. Or simply see yourself as a manager at some large business and having an ex employee threatening you and your family with bodily harm.

We lost two games by three damn points and everyone gets their panties wadded up. College football used to be fun and people enjoyed games and win lose or draw you were still an ardent fan...now you lose a fricking game and folks come unhinged. I suffered through 0-10-1 season, 6-3-1 and all three losses were shutouts. Etc etc. Watched Doug Dickey try to turn a pro style QB into a veer QB. Watched some of the ugliest damn offensive displays, that you would vomit.

Things could be a lot worse and we damn sure don't want to turn into UT with their downward spiral hiring HCs and losing in spite of changes. Mac has a 12.5 million buyout and is paying part of his contract off to leave Colorado State, so he will be here through 2018. Period, exclamation point....as I think we would also have to pay off his part of the CS buyout on top of his current with us. But more than the $$, coaches have to be given 4 years to show their worth or we will have difficult time attracting candidates to come here.

I myself wish he could be gone to end the fricking bellyaching...but the same thing will happen as soon as the new sheriff we hire loses a game. We are our own worse enemy, we don't need rivals.

I don't doubt that it is happening, we have some fans that are really assholes but this happens at about every school where there is discontent in the football program.

I would like to point out, that whether it is happening or not, it makes no LOGICAL SENSE to bring it up at a public press conference and then not elaborate.

At best it makes you look like an idiot, at worst a liar.

This whole thing looks bad for the University, and if you think coming out publicly and complaining about death threats is good for recruiting you are nuts.

He should have quietly reported it to the UAA or the police if there was anything to it.

Just a dumb move, and it just continues to reinforce what some of us are worried about - that the man is burnt out and in over his head.

I am beginning to think that he may be setting up an exit from UF at the end of the year, due to the negativity in the program. This will set the program back another 5 years at a minimum. What top tier coach is going to come to a school that fired a coach after 3 years and then the fans ran a coach off in 3 years after he won the SEC East in his first 2 seasons? We will have to hire a second tier coach and be stuck with him for at least 4 years to show some stability in the program. And of course in this new coaches first year fans will be calling for him to be fired also. Part of our fan base is pitiful!

Coaches will line up to come to Florida. Not the top established guys like Saban, Urban, Dabo ect. But I think we can land a Scott Frost, Gundy, Leach ect

Agree, but every fanbase has them.

Remember Tom Landry being threatened?
Les Miles?

Exactly what I said, top notch coaches will not come to UF. If coaches are lining up to come to UF, How did we end up with Zook, Meyer (yes he over achieved) Muschump and McElwain? We have a history now of being a unstable program, due mainly to bandwagon, impatient, spoiled fans who think that any coach we hire will be the next Steve Spurrier and will only give them 2 years to win a NC before whining like little bitches.

I believe Mac has had death threats through some form of social media. It is part of the gig with being a HC in the SEC.

I do think that bringing it up was not the right thing to do. He could have brought it up with the UAA and not the media.

Texas offering 100 mil couldnt pull Saban.

If youre a coach and cant handle expectations, maybe you chose the wrong career

Those top level guys aren't going anywhere. It has nothing to do with UF, they just don't move. But the next rung of guys? They are looking for their chance at the big time and you just have to hope you get the right fit. Usually that means pulling a coach from the Utah's and Houston's of the world. Meyer worked out, Mac is starting to look like that's probably not the case.

and what's wrong with wanting the next steve spurrier?

Meyer has now won 2 national championships within the first 2 season of a new coaching gig. (UF/OSU)

**side note, he probably would've won it in his first year had OSU not been on probation.

Saban nearly done it in his second year at bama. We were just able to hold out long enough in SEC championship game. then he dominated in year 3.

Les Miles even it in year 3 at LSU.

Richt has currently made Miami somewhat relevant again with being a top 10 program.

Kirby is in the top 5 in year 2.

I'm sure that there are other examples, but to think it can't be done is dumb. and the biggest thing other than the natty's with those choses is that their teams showed IMPROVEMENTS from year one to two and so on. that's what we're lacking, and i believe that's where alot of the whining is coming from. Mac was hired to improve the offense, and he just hasn't done it. it really is that plain and simple. we're just as mediocre as we were before he was hired.

Out of all the teams you listed -- Kirby has had the easiest ride. 2015 Georgia was ranked 24th, 2014 Georgia was ranked 9th by the end of the year.

2014 we were 53rd of 128

2013 we were 89th of 125.

2015 we were 28th.

2016 we were 27th.

That's improvement from where we were, but McElwain obviously had a lot less to work with than Kirby.
