Hope we get better pitching results on fri and sat.
I suspect we'll be in for the same "wth" ride with this Utah series.
as long as they figure some things out before the blood feud in a few weekends, I'm not gonna get too caught up in a loss or two along the way.

Isn't this the last weekend before the clempson series? I think we have 4 games to work some things out before clempson.

you right - 4 games ...don't know what I was thinking.
long way to go and ...well, y'all know the rest of the verse
hopefully Kingston can get this team straight in short order.

There is a whole lot to fix before next weekend. The errors and runs we have given up is crazy.

15-3 Win. Good news is we broke out the bats and alot of players got to play. Bad news is Carmen didn't make it out of the 4th due to control issues.

Crazy game today. Had a 4-2 lead heading into the 9th inning, then Sawyer Bridges implodes and lets Utah Valley tie the game at 4-all, then Gilreath comes in to try to hold the tie, but gives up a double that puts Utah Valley ahead 5-4...
For the Gamecocks, the next 4 batters to take the bottom 9th are Allen, Cullen, Neville, and Campbell - four guys who have not been hitting well thus far this season. Cullen did hit a solo dinger earlier in the game however, and Campbell has been hitting around .300 in the last 2-3 games....
Allen walks to lead off, then advances to 2B on a balk. Cullen hits a SUCCESSFUL sacrifice bunt - remember those? - to move Allen to 3B with 1 out...
Holladay pinch-hits for Neville, who has been striking out pretty much every at-bat he's had thus far this season. Holladay strikes out looking for the 2nd out. Ouch....
Noah Campbell steps in and on a 2-2 pitch, hits a WALK-OFF HOME RUN to center right, to drive in Allen and win the game 6-5! South Carolina takes the series in two games, with a 3rd one scheduled for tomorrow. Gilreath gets his first win as a Gamecock....

Cambell hit a nice hr yesterday I believe. How was the freshman on the mound?
I was starting to think a successful bunt was a fantasy.
At least we are finding ways to win while we are finding out what pieces go where.
I like the fighting to the end attitude that this team has shown so far.

If you're referring to Harley, he was a little better than his first start. That game, he started with 4 Ks in 2 innings, then quickly flamed out and ended up with 5 Ks and 5 walks with 5 earned runs in 2.2 innings! He was on point, then the strike zone was relocated to another time zone, and he couldn't find it again.
Today was a bit better, like I said. Harley didn't totally dissolve like the first time: he started off very strong again, with 5 K in 3 innings, and ended up with 6 Ks in 4.0 innings, but 0 walks this time. He gave up a 1-out triple in the top of the 4th, but fought out of it without giving up a run. Then in the top of the 5th, he gave up B2B doubles which scored a run, then Coyne relieved and loaded the bases and then threw a wild pitch that scored the last guy Harley was responsible for.
So he lasted longer this time - into the 5th but didn't record an out, so only officially 4 innings - but each time he jumps all over the opposing hitters and then fizzles out quickly. It could be he's just young and not strong enough yet - he's burning his energy to make the big throws too fast, and doesn't know how to pace himself yet - or he's got a plan for the first go-round of the lineup, and then doesn't know how to pitch them the 2nd go-round, and they start touching him up.
I don't know. But he clearly has great stuff, and if he can continue to strengthen as the season goes along, then he'll start earning some win decisions for all the work he does. As for now, Shook got the first "W", and Gilreath got this one today.....

I've been saying that we probably won't see a starter that can take us deep into the 8th this year and we will see 4 to 6 pitchers per game but I dont like how both Carmen and Harley look lights out for a couple of innings then forget how to throw strikes.
We are giving up way too many hits, may bite us in the arse next weekend.

Morgan was on fire today. 9 strikeouts with no walks ( he hasn't walked a batter all year) and he pitched deep into the game. Imo he is looking more like a Fri night starter.
5 homeruns. Cullen has 3 this weekend and I think Campbell may have 3.
Swept the series 31-11.
App state is next then that school in the upstate .

Maybe between the 3 weekend starters, the #2 and #3 starters are the strongest ones, and the staff keeps it that way, and tries to steal some series by spotting the opponent the Friday game first. I hope we don't put Morgan into the Friday role, and the pressure from that causes him to lose his groove. Especially this coming weekend, going against a fierce rival and a post-season playoff atmosphere for each game. May be too early for that.
But yeah Mlod is just not getting it done as the Friday Ace......

Isn't Morgan the oldest out of the 3 starters? Im concerned that our fri and sat night starters, both being from our state, will try to do too much this weekend and lose the strike zone. The upstate team was supposed to be built off if defense and speed this year but they have been hitting the ball pretty well.

Yardcocks are ranked #2 in the nation in most homeruns (16).

10th season since the blood feud switched to a 3-game weekend series as opposed to 4 games throughout the season.
Gamecocks still hold a 14-13 advantage, even though USC hasn't taken the weekend series since 2014. Carolina won 4 of the first 5 weekend series, winning 4 straight.
6-3 Home
4-4 GVL
1-0 CHS
3-6 Away
4-4 in 1-Run Games
2-2 in games involving a shutout
Gamecocks have the longest win streak in the weekend series with 4 straight, sweeping 2013 and winning game 1 in 2014.
USC went 1-2 in the first restored weekend series format before winning 9 of the next 12 games. Carolina's won just 4 the last 12 games.
USC has won game 1 of the series the past 3 seasons, though has not won game 2 in Greenville since 2015.

Crazy how close it’s been. I’d still be for switching to just a regular 3-game series rotated home and away each season.
