Thank you!

We have to do a better job with the midweek games. This team has a lot of talent.

Was it the 2010 or the 2011 team that actually went undefeated in midweek games? That's almost unheard for for damn near any team - either because it's just an off night or because you're putting out your 5th or 6th best starter while the local state school gives it everything they have.

I think that was 2011, but 2010-2012 all run together a little for me.

This year should be fun.

Starting to wonder if it's in our coaches contract that they have to roll over for unc.

Incidentally, I wonder if Holbrook would still be here if he had beaten UNC and gotten us to Omaha in 2013.

I don't think he would be. I do believe this new coach is closer to a Tanner clone than Chad was.

In addition to the outfield wall getting updated with the program's accomplishments, Kingston said he'd like to see some numbers retired as well in addition to Tanner's. If that became a thing I think we'd end up having to give like 4-5 players from the 2010-2012 run a nod.

Roth and JBJr for sure. But also players like Price and Walker off the top of my head. Outside of that run I think of players like Justin Smoak and Kip Bouknight. I'm aging myself in that I couldn't name anyone pre-2000 off the top of my head but I'm sure there's plenty than are more than worthy. I think we'd have to give June Raines a nod - I think he gave us 4 CWS, some runner-ups, and is still our all time wins leader.

What say ye Cocks?

Walker, JBJ, Roth, Price, Smoak, Powell, Drew Meyer, and Bouknight are all good options. All of those guys had some major accomplishments and played for some great teams.

ETA: Earl Bass - apparently, he was really good.

My earliest memories are of Randy Martz . Imo the greatest Gamecock pitcher in history.

I think you would want to give a nod to Bobby Richardson who got the program rolling.

And no way you leave out the great Mookie Wilson.

Add in Earl Bass and Hank Small.

Mike Cook in the mid 80's was damn good.

Whit Merrifield has to be considered.
Maybe have a wall for Gamecocks that got drafted in the first round of the MLB draft?

There are criteria you have to meet to get your jersey retired by USC:
University record holder;
A consensus All-American;
A consensus National Player of the Year (Naismith, Wooden, Heisman, Outland, Golden Spikes);
An Olympic medalist while a student at USC; or
An All SEC 1st or 2nd team for 3 years.

Kip Bouknight has all of them except the gold medal.
Martz and Roth I think have 3 out if the 5.
Those 3 need to go first but I think Kip goes beyond the jersey- I think he should have a statue.

Smoak, Small and Bass qualify based on school record holders.

No one else from the World Series teams qualify unless you are going to give Whit an all time record for his hit streak or Wingo for his HBP record. JBJ does not qualify.

Took that from a post on TBS

I think we have a very talented yet under the radar team. I have a feeling they won't stay under the radar long. I see 3 potential all-amercians in the starting lineup.

P.S. Just fyi it's Carolina baseball tradition not to say the name of the town in Nebraska until we are there. We leave that to other teams that like to stencil the name on their hat.
