Where Bryce stacks up. Main takeaway - Mac's season last year was absolutely stupid.

A lot of people think we suck this year because of how insanely good we were last year. There’s no doubt that last years offense was the best of all time.

If Bryce could end the season with the 20+ accuracy up to about 40-45%, that'd be great.

When considering the receiving talent gap between Mac/Tua years and this year (not hating on Metchie, Jameson, and others but there is a discrepancy), Young is really impressive here

It's worth repeating one more time ... many folks on this site were not excited about Mac Jones heading into the season last year. We heard the usual moans of "Saban isn't playing the BEST player, he's playing the most experienced." Bryce was being heralded as the greatest QB in the history of the world, and Saban's stubbornness was going to cause him to transfer.
You'd think Mac (and many others) would have shut those folks up by now, but it continues to happen.
And now look ... Bryce is playing like a veteran now, even though he's only got eight starts under his belt. I'd be willing to bet a lot of that composure is because he was able to become more comfortable in the offense last year and this spring / fall before being asked to take the reins.

I honestly believe, before it's all over (barring injury), Mac will go down as the best QB to ever come out of Bama.

Calm down, chief! I did not throw shade at Bryce. I was making a statement that should be obvious.
If that dude starts hitting the deep ball with consistency, our O will be absolutely deadly. Everything opens up. It's the kind of O that can put a team like UGA on their heels.

Agree.
Where would this team currently be, on to the end of the season without Bryce Young?
Seems he's under duress quiet frequently when he drops back to pass.
Especially with the swinging gate at RT.

I actually think Mac will go down as the best QB in a single season at UA but career hard to say because he only started one season.

I knew Bryce was struggling with deep ball accuracy, I had no idea he was worse than Jalen Hurts.
That’s not great, but probably not helped by the lack of separation on deep ball passes by anyone not named Jameson Williams this year.

I could say I was one but in all fairness he had been riding the pine with little opportunity. So we really had no idea what he was capable of and I do not recall any person on this site overly excited about him becoming the starter.
So far this season from what I have seen Young may end up being the best QB at UA.
Out of all the QBs we have had he may have the less talent/production around him and an OL that is no where near what many other QBs have had under Saban. Would I like to see better deep balls yes but also WRs getting separation outside of Williams. He has great poise and pocket presence even when the pocket is collapsing. I think he is realizing that for us to be successful he will need to run more when needed and if he starts to add a running game to his play for the remainder of the season teams are going to have a tough time handling our offense.
He has the same poise Mac did with less weapons. He also keeps his patience in the pocket like Mac but his collapses more. He reads the field as well as Tua did and will go through his progressions. Unfortunately unlike Tua does not have the weapons. He seems to have the run ability of Hurts but will not leave the pocket until he has to now that he is starting to run the ball.

asphinctersayswhat: Apologies; I wasn't hating on you. Yours was the post I clicked "Reply" to, because yours was the last in the thread when I started typing.
There are a handful of folks on here who get star-struck by incoming freshmen every year, and routinely complain when they're not playing. It was particularly noticeable last year leading up to the first game (and even beyond) with the Mac / Bryce situation.
I agree with you ... if Bryce can start routinely hitting those throws 20+ yards downfield, we're gonna be difficult for anybody to stop. We're already darn good-to-great on offense, despite less-than-stellar OL play ... that type of long-ball production would move us into the "elite" category.

To clarify what I mean:
I'm referring to his overall body of work with college and NFL by the time he retires. Bryce may end up having the best Bama career but not sure he will top what Mac will do in the NFL. I just think Mac's ability to comprehend the game and read a defense combined with his accuracy is the best we've seen from here.
That being said, I'm very glad we have Bryce. I feel he's done a very good job. I'd like a different coordinator to work with him but that's another topic.

We are already the #1 offense from an efficiency standpoint, but I think we need the vertical passing game and a fix of some sort for the RT issue on the OL.

I knew Mac was going to be a stud after the 2019 Auburn game that we lost. Everyone focused on the bad luck INTs, but I saw resiliency, accuracy and arm talent coming out of that game. He just flat out balled out last year.

May be an unpopular ask but could you do burrows stats compared to mac? They both had historic years

The difference is that Jalen Hurts was playing with first round talent at the WR position when he started in 2016 and 2017. Jameson Williams is our most talented WR and he's a second round pick at best right now. Bryce Young is quite literally willing the offense to score points right now.

We have a few that played for the Bear that could make that argument as well including Super Bowl wins, MVPs, and NFL Hall of Fame. Just saying.

Defense lost that game. We shouldn't need to score 49 points to win... at the very worst, we should be at a level where 29 points wins (Yes it's still possible these days). The INTs and bs penalty at the end never bothered me that much because of that
