Just a praise to Ms St and all of the colleges doing this

My friend from Ms called me tonight to talk some football. MSU comes to us this year and that was on his mind...
Our conversation quickly turned to 2 players from MS St that was recently found dead. One being Bear Wilson, a guy that I thought had what was needed for the next level. The other was PJ Jones. I think both played with Dak or during that time.
Neither of those guys had the programs around them to help them post football. You train your whole life for it. In college, that training is stepped up majorly. Then, it's over..... Now what?
Msu started 2 programs for players. One is a mental health program. They hired 2 experts to work with players in all sports. The other is Life After Sport Initiatives and it is mandatory for all juniors and seniors.
They have networking nights all geared to help the transition if football or sports do not work out.

That’s a damn good idea. I hope other schools take note and do the same. I’ve always worried about what these kids that don’t make the cut in the NFL do with their lives, this’s a big deal.

Same here. Marcus Lattimore was the head of the program designed for success/life after football and when he left recently, Connor Shaw took over. There's also a dedicated program and staff for mental well being as well as instant access to Hilinski's Hope resources (which are available to ALL athletes everywhere.)

Of course it does. The way out of poverty for most of these guys is to make the NFL and they train hard to get there. Let’s be honest most aren’t Rhodes scholars and if they don’t make it then it has to be very upsetting.
Another reason we should support leagues like XFL because it gives opportunity for those who didn’t make it to still play ball and make a decent living

Ryan Day at Ohio State does this. He lost his father to suicide and during the 2014 season Ohio State lost a player to suicide. Day is very frank about his dad and makes sure that his players have the support network that they need.

That is a load of fricking bullshite. That is a dream sold to idiots. Very few MSU players make the league. Their ticket out of poverty is being the first kid from a MS Delta family to get a college degree, move to Memphis (or hopefully a better city) and raise their kids with decent families and decent schools. The dividend is down the road, just like for the rest of us, except for the 1% or fewer athletes who can ever make a living playing football.

I had a discussion not long ago with an advisor on campus who was telling me that the way they account for every second of a student-athletes time in college actually really hurts them afterwards, even in pro sports. They dont have anyone hounding them to eat the exact prescribed meals, training schedule, tutoring sessions, etc. and when they get out, a lot of them can't handle it. They get to the pros and flame out, not because they don't have the talent and technique, but because they have no ability to make decisions for themselves and the real world eats them alive.

This place is awesome 95% of the time but leave it up to 1-2 sickos to smear shite during a time of sorrow.
We all know the difficulties of living and growing up in the Deep South, no need for this here.

Most that make the NFL are broke within 4-5 years of leaving. 4 years of making $1 million dollars before taxes does not equal lifetime security for most, especially when many didn't finish their degree and cannot get meaningful employment when they are done.

I don't. Concussions linked to suicide is a documented fact.
Ms ST and other colleges like those mentioned here are doing a job thing and he just wants to shite on it.
