Well who is UF going to hire that will give them at least what Mullen did.

With the right staff around him ? And some good contract handcuffs - which he'll gladly accept now ?

Freshwater. Seriously. There is no better choice out there for Florida. He'll have that place rocking in four years. Absolutely off the chain. I'm not trolling you on this - dead serious.

He is as good a fit at Florida as Dave Aranda is at LSU. Both would be absolutely perfect at those schools.

But Florida having to do the buyout isn't worth it!

It is when you've lost the fanbase and you are building a $90 million football facility and about to announce $200M+ in football stadium renovations.

Mullen's buyout was cheap. Auburn paid a lot more, and when Texas gets here they will hold the record having paid a whopping 58M for a six loss streak and counting ..

Florida had to make the change because Mullen wanted them to fire him. He made it impossible.

New Year 6 bowl games get thrown around like they are the gold standard. So what???

A New Year 6 bowl game means what exactly? You were in the top 16? If you are coaching Florida, you better be in the top 16 or at least recruit your arse off.....and oh, by the way, never EVER wear halloween costumes to your pressers.

Listen, normally I would agree, but Mullen had given up completely. You let that continue and the program will rot. They're obviously still healthy enough that as long as they get a decent coach, they'll be fine. They need someone who can recruit Florida and hire a decent staff. That's not absurdly difficult to find.

When you get asked, in your post-game presser - "Do you want to be here ?".

It's a legit problem - that question didn't just come out of the blue. I do not blame Florida in the slightest for firing him. It was obvious.

I don't know where Mullen thinks he can go now. Not a serious P5 Head Coaching job. I wonder if the pressure - including his ol' lady face kissing and groping players - just put him on tilt.

I can't blame him if it did.

Honestly, VT and Washington would be decent landing spots for Mullen.

"Potentially coaching for his job, Dan Mullen punted on fourth-and-inches, kicked a field goal on fourth-and-2, and willfully let the game go to OT instead of trying to move the ball 35 yards into FG position with over a minute left."

This was in a tweet and I think it shows just how Dan Mullen coaches not to win in all situations. He has zero nutsack.

Look I have never really been a Dan Mullen fan. I though Florida should have looked in a different direction when they got him. But at a place like Florida they think they should have a Saban, Bryant, Bowden, or Paterno coaching UF. Those guys are not out there right now. The few that are are gonna stay put. So you are already dropping down a level. If you can’t hire Chip Kelly or Brian Kelly then that takes care of the next level. So you are left with coaches that have not even done what Mullen has done like a Kiffin or a Leach. Or you have to get a top coordinator or a guy like Bill Clark at UAB. He is a hell of a coach but can he coach at a place like UF and get them to championship level. So if that is the case Mullen earned a bad year so why not give him one more and see what happens and hire someone next year if it goes bad.

Yeah - if he can get his personal stuff straight. I honestly ... honestly ... think this is a big part of it.

The man sabotaged himself, and seemed to enjoy it. And look - he did GREAT at MSU. I think he got in over his head, knew it, and didn't know how to quit.

With all those "pictures" ? You guys know what I'm talking about. I wonder if he left MSU - a PERFECT situation for him - for the same reasons.

Mullen did good (not as great as some believe) at MSU but I bet Leach will do much better in same timespan.

Mullen is a fraud and always been.

Your pissant school ran 40+ grown men onto the field to celebrate a TD because you were in the midst of losing like 14 of 17 to the Gators.

That's gonna' be a question worth watching. Because Mississippi produces a TON of talent for a state that size. They just mostly go to LSU, Alabama, and East Texas schools.

IF - big IF - Leach can capture some of that ? Then yeah, you'll see Leach move MSU up the SEC ladder. Mississippi has no lack of football talent.

LSU and Bama sure.

I don't think anyone besides McKinley Jackson has gone to A&M. They've gone everywhere else they are academically eligible to play though.

Absolutely. They've been around for 100+ years and so far they have had Spurrier, Meyer and....and.....and....

Help me out here.

New Years Six games are a sign of where you are at now. If you made it that far then that indicates then if Lady Luck had smiled on you a little longer or better then you could have been one of the top 4. New Years Six games means you are in the parking lot of playing for a title you just are not in the stadium yet. A few bounces of the ball just right or get a call that you didn’t get in a certain game and you could have been in the top 4. So they are a good judge of where you are at.

Ummmm...no. #5-17, probably. You finish in the top 10 and thta is an accomplishment. Don't buy into the crap that is spewed on this board. "If you're not first you are last!" is from a comedy movie. It was said to be funny.

Give me a ranking in the top 10 over not being ranked at all. Even if you are #16...there are something like 130 teams in Div. 1?

Ok. We are in 100% agreement there. Don't get me wrong...Mullen was a clown, no doubt. He said stupid stuff and acted like he was a whole lot better than he was. I don't blame Florida for firing him at all.

Bt don't sneeze at NY 6 bowls.
