Sounds like some lame excuses for getting our asses kicked every play but okay Ekiyor

This sounds to me like this is the closest Ekiyor can get to saying our OL coach sucks without saying our OL coach sucks.
quote:
“I think it’s always frustrating as an offensive lineman because you want to establish run,” Ekiyor said. “And that comes with scheme, comes with game plan. It’s more than just want-to and effort. So, I think the want-to and effort were definitely there. I think there are some more things we can clean up as far as in-game adjustments"
Ekiyor said there’s more than meets the eye when considering the full context.
“I think the misperceptions is that if something’s not going well -- a protection or the run game -- that it’s solely just offensive linemen,” Ekiyor said. “A lot goes into having a successful run play or successful protection starts with the cause call or with the idea of the Mike (linebacker) or you know whatever pressures they are bringing and identifying them correctly.
“And just stuff like preparation throughout the week, like scheming game plans. So a lot goes into it not just the want-to or effort because everybody does that on game day. We want to win the game and want to play hard so but other things go into it.”

Well, they need to start scheming something...so far this might be our worst OL since the infamous Pancake Posse of 2000.

when it was obvious that the corndogs were gonna load the box and blitz all night, it was really frustrating to not see any adjustment from saban, the OC, and OL coaches. 5-6 can’t block 7-8.
the lack of screens, QB rollouts, quick slants, hot routes, etc. played right into ogre’s gameplan. bryce’s inability to hit the long ball all season undoubtedly led to ogre’s decision to blitz all night.

So does Emil think nobody is going to watch that LSU film and do the same thing? It felt similar to what A&M did to us earlier, just bring more people than we can block (which is the same as the number of OL we have since Owens couldn’t block a grandma on a walker). Arkansas and Auburn are going to bring the heat and Alabama better be ready.
Speaking of A&M, I’m pretty impressed with the job their OL coach has done, having starters go down early in the season, and forcing them to insert freshmen. They’ve really done well for kids that weren’t ready in the first couple of starts. They grew up real fast. I hope CNS seriously considers their OL coach to replace Marrone, who needed to hit the bricks Sunday.

I’ll say this I went back and watched the game again. I was streaming and missed a lot of it live. There were a lot of 7/8 men boxes.

Put Randolph in at TE and we now have a 6 man OL. BRob blocking and that’s 7. OL was bad, coaching was worse.

Nutshell…OL, “not our fault, coaching sucks”

We are 9 games into the season. There is no narrative. There are facts. The facts are this OL has been inconsistent at best and a disaster at worst.
I'm beyond caring why at this point. It seems to be a bit of everything - coaching, physical play, mental recognition, play-calling setting them up for problems, etc. It is what it is.

Stop putting all the blame on the offensive & defensive coordinators them kids need to take some accountability on how they played hell the coaches can’t go out there make tackles, block, run, catch balls etc….. This is a different age of football players and it shows!!

Exactly. Scheme sucks at times when they bring 6 and play zero when we only have 5 in protection but that blame then goes to a WR or RB who cant get open against man coverage. The best part about playing OL is physically moving another man against his will and out guys cant do that consistently if ever.

And the same can be said for the other side of the ball.
It's been a unusual year both the offense and defense as well as trying to get a read on Nick Saban for this bunch.

Per ESPN
quote:
Surprisingly, the offensive line has struggled for much of the season. Alabama has allowed 22 sacks in nine games, including four in a 41-38 loss at Texas A&M and four more against LSU. The Tide's sack rate of 6.6% is nearly three times as high as No. 1 Georgia's (2.3%) and ranks 74th among FBS teams.

Honestly we could have seen the writing on the wall. I remember Bryce being constantly harassed last year when the backups got put in

I miss Landon Dickerson. He would blow up his guy and then go looking for someone else to hit. We sorely miss that mentality.

Agree on Randolph. He has experience. Losing Leatherwood, Brown and Dickerson has hurt more than maybe we expected. Thought we were stockpiled better there though. Somebody above pointed out how great A&M adjusted to losses on their O line. That was a big difference in that game. Maybe more numbers to block will help for passing, but B Rob needs to run the ball. Maybe try runs from pistol or I formation? Running outside more? I'm no coach, but we are struggling to overpower teams with our offensive line.

Scheme has nothing to do it when they’re getting drilled up the A gap. That’s just straight up weak. Owens repeatedly got driven into the backfield as soon as he snapped the ball

There is a lot of OL standing around watching at the end of plays versus playing until the whistle.
Is Bryce's height impacting his ability on the quick throws? With that many on the line, there is basically a wall in front of him. IDK, but it probably impacts the slants and quick throws over the middle when he can't track the LBs.
Could be completely wrong, but just a thought.
