I’m not done with Odom but damn this shite is hard to watch. It’s like playing prevent defense the entire fricking game. We get zero pass rush we are horrible against the run and eventually someone comes open even in 8 man coverage. This shite is pathetic.

Feels great to get the win but damn that defense is awful. LSU is going to be a shootout bama will boat race us and Missouri will be a shootout as well albeit one we should still win by 10-14 points. Odom needs to figure some things out NOW

It's going to get worse today, too. Hogs D starts out really good and then fades badly. By the 4th qtr, they rank bottom 10 in the nation on defensive efficiency.

The offense has been shite too. We’ve gotten progressively worse on both sides of the ball each and every game this year outside of the ole miss game on offense. Damn I’ll be glad when these offensive lineman that are here now are gone they’re fricking horrible

I’m getting there he’s fundamentally sound but the scheme is hot garbage. Leach and kiffin both figured his defense completely out. It looks like we just play the prevent defense all day. We can’t stop the run, we NEVER send pressure, we can’t cover short throws, deep throws, intermediate throws nothing

Catalon covered up a lot. Our other safeties can't hold his jock. Still won though

Our front 7 is mostly 2 and 3 star players. Don't think its the Xs and Os. Our blue collar guys do play pretty hard. Giving up 28 to leach isn't a disaster.

Only took 3 plays to get in fg range at the end of the game

I know some are sick of hearing it, but that sounds like lack of depth to me.

I agree with you to an extent. But allowing state to complete 3 passes with 21 seconds left isn’t a depth issue it’s a scheme issue and coverage issue.

Oh I completely agree. I don't like the scheme either, or rather I don't like the lack of variety within the scheme.

I do think our depth is still a relevant issue, though.

yes this is where I’m at. I don’t hate the scheme even it’s just the fact that it’s the only thing we do with no variation. We never blitz never show a different front never mix it up to try and confuse reads. And hell when we do good things happen so we can’t do it too much

Finally a voice of reason amidst a slight freakout of a thread.

People think that we have DBs with tons of experience under their belts and assume they should be top-tier SEC players, but in reality it's a small miracle they're even serviceable. They're a bunch of walkons and 2-3 stars that simply have a ton of experience.

Most of them are white too, and I think we all know what i mean by that

Odom has a patchwork of transfers, walkons, and 2-3 stars to work with right now and has made them into a serviceable defense that's got solid fundamentals. We haven't even been able to say THAT much in a long time

I will say if you had told me before the season that we'd hold Leach's offense to 28 without Catalon I'd have taken that every single time.

I’m not saying Odom hasn’t done a good job. But the fact is we can’t just trot the exact same scheme out there week after week we need a few wrinkles. I love that we won but if state takes advantage of every successful drive they had we give up 37. Leach and kiffin both figured out odoms gameplan and I think a big part of that is we seem to do the same thing every single play

Guess I'll share my opinion on this. We are still deficient on talent and depth defensively. Doesn't matter how good Odom is or isn't unless we give him horses to work with.

We haven't had any real pressure from the DL since the Texas A&M game. Our secondary was only decent with Catalon and terrible without him. LBs are good at cleaning up plays, but we don't really have any that are gamechangers.

Pittman is seriously going to need 4-5 recruiting classes to get us back to the level we were under Nutt. Some of you will probably lol at that, but Nutt also fielded teams that could have won the SEC 3 or 4 times in 10 years. Pittman and staff need time.
