We have one rush over 30 yards this year.

Think the 2017 team ended with like 47 over 30 yards.

Keep thinking Zeus is pop one up the middle but it doesn’t happen.

That is kind of crazy, but man I love watching Zeus consistently and constantly moving entire piles of defenders 4 or 5 yards down the field with him every time he runs up the middle. That’s got to be more demoralizing to those defenses than giving up a big one.

Defenses are absolutely selling out to stop the run.

Was the one over 30 Stetson?

I think we got very spoiled with Sony, Chubb, and Swift. None of the current guys have that great of vision imo. Thought Milton may be the one, but he seems to have kind of regressed this year. I love Zamir but he's more on line with Elijah Holyfield than the others.

McIntosh has the biggest upside in our RB stable, IMO. Hasn't he been banged up this year?

Maybe it takes those play action long passes to loosen things up.

Conversely we are ranked 70th in big pass plays…

Hopefully we get that receiver depth back to allow the run game to open even more.

I think his was 30, not sure if there was a longer one "over 30".

Milton is still hurt, most likely from the collision in the Clemson game that put the other player out for most/all of the season with a shoulder injury. Hopefully he continues to heal up.

Was talking about it on the other board, butt imagine having Zach Evans right now... The home run threat on the ground would be very real. I'd say Zeus with no injuries too, but he would have been in the NFL now if that were true. Definitely could use a bit more explosiveness on the ground.

Cook had a run in the Arkansas where the perimeter blocking broke down a bit, but if he had cut outside and beat the man, I think her would have housed it, instead he cut inside and just plodded forward for still a very good gain.

Yes.

Prior to that 24 was our longest run.

Cook and McConkey have 24 yard runs.

Nothing breaks the will of a defense more than a team that keeps getting 5 yards between the tackles. The 4 th quarter drive against Auburn was gold. Absolute soul crusher. We run a lot of dives between the tackles, so those tend to be less likely to break big. We are doing that against teams who are trying to stop the run. (Other than Arky). One thing I noticed is the Rbs are making good decisions to get yards rather than trying to bounce a big play. Maybe it is coaching, strategy, or whatever. We saw Zeus can sweep around the edge and run for big yards against UF last year. We just don’t run many plays like that. We are grind and play action. I like it.

You think? I feel like Milton has the biggest upside but I have seen enough of McIntosh.

Biggest surprise of a stat to me - McConkey being clocked at 22 mph. That's freaking flying.

Yeah, I'm not complaining about the run game at all. The game ending drives of late where we're just eating clock and running right into the teeth of a defense that knows what we're going to do and do it anyways has been impressive. I just do truly think we're absent a bit of the homerun threat potential on the ground that we've had in years past. Zeus is still a great back, and hopefully he continues to get closer and closer to his old explosiveness in the pros. I want nothing but great things for that dude. Similarly, I hope that Cook ends up on an offense that can truly crack the code on how to get the most out of him. He's been greatly improved since about game 3 this year, but I still wonder if there isn't more untapped potential there.

Combine that with the wicked stop and go juke he put on the cb makes him a 1 on 1 coverage nightmare.

Some of the lack of 50 yard runs is the increase in RPO.

It is tough breaking free from an entire defense when your entire offense is not run blocking.

Some of the lack of 50 yard runs is clemson and arkansas sitting deep with DBs (it is tough to reach them and not use the sideline against us or to cross us on a run up the middle)

Zues is great between the tackles but he doesn't seem to have great speed or elusiveness. And Cook has great speed but falls down with contact rather easily. I think those characteristics are why there hasn't been longer runs. Neither of those two have all the characteristics of a true break away runner. Chubb, Gurley, Michel, those guys would all run over people, break tackles or make players miss before breaking a long run. It happened, but the huge holes leading to long runs without breaking tackles or making people miss were rare.

You could tell me 80% of our TD's from 2017 came on Chubb/Michel busting one for 50+ yards and I'd believe you.

Felt like we were always just busting back breaker runs all 2017 long.

This is fair as well. But I can think of at least 5-6 runs where on the replay it feels like it could have been a big gainer had it been Chubb/Michel back there, but that was a special pair and probably not fair to use that as your baseline in reality.
