Has a school ever fired a coach only to rehire him years later?

With the USC job open and the biggest name out there is lane kiffin. It would just be very awkward the way he was fired for them to bring him back. I doubt that lane would even want to go back there but he always said that was his dream job so idk

Not happening. Ole Miss has just as many babes to keep the water fresh.

They not only fired him, they left him on the tarmac and drove off.
Almost see him rather going to UCLA to just beat their asses every year.

Louisville took Bobby Petrino out for a ride twice but he wasn't fired so much as he slipped out in the middle of the night.

SOB did the same thing to the Falcons.

If I was Kiffin, I’d have them come interview me and leave them on the tarmac and never show up.

Didn’t North Carolina do that with Mack Brown?

UNC never fired Mack.. he left for the Texas job.. and UNC rehired him later..
As for Kiffin, I do find it strange that he was in Southern California last week right after Helton got fired..
The AD is different and if that is his “dream job” then I would say it is certainly possible. That recruiting trip would be the perfect cover for him to have a sit down with them.
If they lay an egg this week.. my money is on Kiffin to USC right after the regular season. I would say sooner, but I’m guessing that he doesn’t want to coach there without at least an offseason to install his offense. It could help with recruiting if he left earlier though..
Last game is 11/25 and early signing period is 12/15, so about 2.5 weeks to get some flips.
Jeff Lebby might get promoted at Ole Miss if that happens?
TLDR: Kiffin to USC confirmed. Arch to Texas.

That would be the greatest troll in the history of college football.

Honestly, Lane Kiffin got a raw deal at USC. They hired him right after the sanctions hit.

I could 100% see that.. His quotes so far and his demeanor on the sidelines tells me that the NFL isn’t his cup of tea..
If he jumps from the NFL.. that honestly would be the perfect landing spot for him and he would have them in the playoffs pretty quick. It would be good for college football as well.

Didn't Oregon State hire Mike Riley twice? Not sure he got fired though

They got some graffiti to cover if that's the case

Ironically, John Robinson coached at USC from 1976 to 1982, won a title in 78, resigned in 82, and was rehired as USC HC in 1993 to 1997.
