In other news, Bert continues to destroy what's left of the Illinois program

Blew yet another 4th qtr lead Saturday against Purdue.
Was leading the game 9-6 with 5 min left and Purdue marched down the field and scored a TD to win 13-6. Illini never scored again.
After barely beating Nebraska (holy shite, how awful are they) in week 0, Bert and Illinois are now 1-4, with losses to UTSA, Maryland, a blowout loss to Virginia, and Saturday's defeat to Purdue. He has also had a 4th qtr lead in 2 of the 4 losses and watched them slip away.

They weren’t supposed to or going to win. Bert will be there at minimum 3 years.

The only difference is that Arkansas still cares. U of I care more about Covid vaccines than football. They care more about foreign enrollment than state students. Arkansas and Fayetteville is a lot better than Champaign or Illinois. Illinois highest paid employee is Bert and this state is broke. Bert keeps talking about recruiting Illinois kids, problem when IHSA hasn’t played football for 2 years. So many teams have stopped seasons after week 1 or if covid hits they lose because of forfeit.

I'm kind of disappointed in myself with how much bert failing warms my heart. It does though.

Despite what he did to our program, I don't hold any real ill-will toward Bert anymore. He seems like a guy that would be fun to sit down and have 12 beers with.

Honestly I think all of those good memories are actually because of Pittman. tDecline was pretty obvious as soon as he left. Bert was a likeable drunk but Pitt got tired of watching him flounder about with a program he loved and left for a team that was actually focused on winning games.

Wisconsin fans tried to warn everyone in Arkansas when he was hired but the vast majority of the base did not realize it until about year 4. He legit should have been fired after the 24 pt blown lead to VA Tech, but Long gave him another year. And I'm still not convinced he would have been fired after 2017 had Long not been canned.

I think it’s awesome that Traylor and Lunney beat him with UTSA. They got that program going strong for what it is, sitting at 4-0.

Traylor looks to be pretty legit as a HC. They just beat Memphis, who beat Miss State last week. He’s gonna be a hot commodity in P5 if he keeps it up, especially among bigger Texas schools.
