Why do Texas and Arkansas fans hate each other?

What’s the history / experiences you’ve had or heard about from your family / friends in this rivalry that fuels the hate? This is my must watch game tomorrow and I want to know a little about it.

They both used to be good when they were in the Big 8 or SWC or whatever it was, and they have both sucked for quite a while.

Texas Arkansas Documentary
This was recently put out by Arkansas.. so it’s one sided, but it tells a good story.

Were in the same conference for 80 years and were both very competitive in the 60s

Back in the day Arkansans wouldn’t serve gas to people with Texas plates on game weekends so they had to wait to fill up after they passed the state line, at least that’s the story I’ve heard countless times. No love lost between the two even though it may not be what it used to.

There is more history between those teams than OM will ever experience in football. You should watch.

Was a huge rivalry in the 60's. 69 was the original "Game of the Century" 1vs2. Nixon came and awarded Texas the natty after they won 15-14 which Penn St challenges.
Hatred mainly stems from Texas's off the field bullshite which is a list of things too long to count. Pretty much the same stuff A&M hates them for.
Rivalry wasn't as nationally relevant after the 60's but still many high ranked matchups and upsets.

Not sure about it but heard that Ark won that conference like 14 times and TX won it like 21 times with ‘64 and ‘69 being years where there were national championships on the line.
Is it a truly nasty rivalry with bench clearing brawls and fans being shitty to each other or in other words are we in for a hate filled battle like OM- MSU?

This is what I’m talking about. This is why college football is so cool. Thank you.

The Texas band stopped traveling to Fayetnam because they always had stuff thrown at them.
Arkansas gas stations wouldn’t allow you to get gas if you had Texas plates..
#1 vs #2 - 1969
Game of the Century
Lots of other games where one or the other was number 1..
2 of the best programs of the 60s
maybe both top 5 or so?
The hate started there..
and just grew until they bailed for the SEC..
since then, it has died down some, but I feel it coming back

Arkansas and Ole Miss were like that in the early 60s. A brawl started in the stadium in Little Rock. Then the next year in Jackson, I don't remember but Ole Miss refuse to release some tickets. It was heated enough that both teams refuse to play each other for 20 years.

Arkansas was just another team to Texas. They took that personally, because they felt like they were better than Texas gave them credit for. They were right, and it created a new dynamic.
While the game definitely meant more then for Texas, it wasn't anywhere close to the TX/OU game, and was tied at best with the A&M game. They took that personally because they thought they were better than that, they were wrong. So in anger, they burned all that history up and left for the SEC where they thought they would have more respect.
They were wrong again and have been an afterthought ever since.

Arkansas was the only non Texas school in the SWC so they developed a little dick mentality when it comes to Texas.
Win or lose people from Texas still carry their head high because they are Texans. Have a lot to be proud about
Wasn’t the case with Arkansas. They developed this obsession with winning against Texas schools especially The University of Texas
SEC saw some of this when Arkansas first joined and they tried to attach themselves to LSU. Made that their replacement.
School you don’t want to win because they get loud and proud.

TU has been an afterthought to us for a long time. Sure, we've loved kicking your arse most of the last times we've met but I never got a hard on the way I did back in the day.
I am now looking forward to going in dry on y'all every year. The most entitled bunch of pussies in all of sport. I hope, and expect, every single one of our SEC brethren will treat you like the bitches you are.
A&M has taken your place sips.
