Texas won it 27 times, next closest was A&M at 17

A&M won it twice after Arkansas left the conference. And several of A&Ms titles were ancient.

Post- 1930 until Arkansas left the SWC, A&M won the conference 10 times, Arkansas 14 times.

Yeah selective history in all that but up until ‘29 SWC teams were playing only 3 conference games a year.

We can go to head to head results to but Arkansas was the clear #2 in the conference for the majority of the time they were in the SWC

What’s the history / experiences you’ve had or heard about from your family / friends in this rivalry that fuels the hate? This is my must watch game tomorrow and I want to know a little about it.

Why do they hate each other and what is the meaning of the rivalry?

From 1960 - 1990, they were both the most dominant teams in the SWC. In that span, Texas won 13 Conference Titles and 2 National Titles. In that same span, Arkansas won 9 Conference Titles and 1 National Title. Both teams were the marquee programs of the Southwest Conference before the Hogs left in 1991.

In that time span, both programs were in the top 10 in win percentage nationally. Texas during that span was 7th (74%) in win percentage and Arkansas was 9th (73%). National Top 10 in win percentage during that time was.....

1. Alabama
2. Nebraska
3. Penn State
4. Oklahoma
5. Ohio State
6. Southern Cal
7. Texas
8. Michigan
9. Arkansas
10. Arizona State

The only other SWC programs that came close to these two programs was Houston and aTm. Houston was 25th in win percentage over that same timeframe and won 4 conference titles. aTm was 57th in win percentage in that span and also won 4 conference titles.

It is meaningful during this span because of integration and the college game changing during that span of time.

In a nutshell, Texas and Arkansas were the marquee programs in what used to be one of the major conferences in college football. Both won a lot of games at the height of the rivalry, won national titles, and out of that timeframe, one or the other won the SWC 22 times.

But it just isn't football...no matter the sport, Arkansas and Texas dislike one another. In the old SWC, Arkansas and Texas were really the only schools who excelled on both the gridiron and the hardwood (2 major sports). Nolan Richardson took it to the next level when he arrived in Fayetteville and Arkansas fans would take over the SWC Tourney prior to leaving for the SEC.

Yea, not really.

From 1960-1990 Texas and Arkansas won 22 of the conferences championships.

At the height of the SWC, the premier programs were the Horns and Hogs. In that 30 year span both were in the top 10 in win percentage nationally, won national titles and won the majority of the conference titles.

Texas A&M was not really a factor most years, outside of winning or splitting the conference 4 times in that span. aTm also ranked 57th in win percentage nationally (167-157 w/l).

While aTm won the SWC 17 times, 3 of those conference titles were after Arkansas left the league and 9 of those titles were from 1917-1956.

Being the only non-Texan team in a conference for that long will put a chip on your shoulder.

My family went to Arkansas and great grandfather was on the board of directors at UA in the 60s.

As a kid I was an Arkansas fan but living in MS and eventually attending MSU I became a state fan. To this day I hate Texas 10x more than ill ever hate Ole Miss. OM is a rival to talk shite to for fun. Texas can die in a fire. If you think OM fans can be pretentious arrogant douchebags Texas is 15x worse
