That's a lot of money for a DC who always gets torched by their principle opponent in their division.

That's just the reality of facing an elite team in this day and age.

People are going to score.

The actual problem is that Jimbo can't seem to put an offense on the field that can keep it within two scores of Alabama.

You’re not wrong. I think to make that turn we really need elite quarterback play. I think mond had a fairly high floor but a fairly low ceiling. I’m not sure any coach would have developed him into a Heisman candidate

So, we'll find out in the next couple of years if a team can truly just buy a National Championship. Surely the multi-million dollar NIL agreements for recruits are the next prong of this "attack".

We are happy to be the guinea pig.

Jaylen Waddle and Davonte Smith will do that. They torched everybody.

But Elko is a legit, really good coach. Sometimes it boils down to individual matchups, it’s not a scheme issue. We have confidence in him to put the guys in positions to make plays.

LSU didn’t rush for much, but Max put up much better numbers in limited action against Elko than Mond did against Bo Pelini. Max had better than 50% comp per with a TD and over 100 yds in a quarter or so of play.

Lol, So Max was able to get some yardage on a garbage time drive with A&M up 20-0 and LSU scored with under a minute and you think that indicates how the A&M D sucks and LSU is a great offense? Mond had a bad game against LSU but in the end all he had to do was hand the ball off and it worked. LSU didn't do anything offensively until A&M went into prevent at the end.

A&M played a more conservative O last year because we could. We won our last 7 games by double digits by running the ball, making conservative passes, and winning the 4th Quarter. Mond was a game manager. It drove Ags crazy (and if you listen to Jimbo it bothered him as well) that Mond would almost always check down off the deep ball even if he had a 1 on 1 matchup with a step to go for the shorter pass. It worked because it kept the turnovers low and the D was stacked. Haynes King is definitely not Mond. He's going to take shots and make a lot of plays with his feet. The question is can he take care of the football.

Elko is the man though and if you hear recruits talk he is consistently brought up as part of why they love A&M. I'm happy to see us pay the man.

It's funny how many fans and media pundits have a problem with how we spend our money. We were told we couldn't do better than Sumlin, so we hired Fisher. Told we couldn't rebuild our stadium at 100K seats, because the demand wouldn't be there. Did it anyway, and the demand is definitely there.

Why does the CFB world have such a problem with us spending the money to try and improve? Wait until they see the new facilities that Fisher and Shlossnagle are getting in the next year or two.

And we like our coaching staff and the continuity - so pay for it.

Throwing down all this cash to a coaching staff who can’t even compete with Bama

Makes a hell of a lot more sense than bumping Jimbo right now. Elko leaving for a HC job is actually a realistic possibility if we don’t pay him right now, unlike Jimbo.

Maybe, but he's never had a defense outside the top 50 in his entire tenure as a DC in the P5. From wake forest, to notre dame, to A&M.

But there’s always hope.

Nick Saban turned Blake Sims into a really good QB. I think Mond could have produced better than he did at A&M. He was never going to be elite, but he was average at best all 4 years at A&M

Yea Covid had nothing to do with that ranking

You do realize that 2020 was with no cupcakes and all SEC right? Logically he should have gotten worse, not better if he was trending even.

I mean, it's pretty easy to see that Elko is a HUGE upgrade from what we've had in the past

A&M seems to have an organizational issue with getting way too excited about improvement and losing awareness of how mediocre your results still are

I expect our defense to be top 10 again this year, especially returning everyone

Lol no. Sorry, y’all aren’t going to have the advantage of 0 opt outs vs. 3+ opt outs again this year

You can't argue with that side of the balls results

32 and 29 in normal years is not worth $2.5MM+ but ok

Vandy was 0-9, USC was 2-8, Arkansas was 3-7, Miss State was 4-7, Tennessee was 3-7. There are cupcakes in the SEC too. How many of those teams were better than Colorado, Fresno State, or North Texas (teams A&M was supposed to play last year)? And if they were better, how much better? A lot has been made about this All-SEC schedule, but when you're adding teams from the East that are awful, is your schedule really that much more difficult?
