These statewide bans are pointless and political stunts for his future endeavors. Even you said the spike from tourists was inevitable, so why would you not empower municipalities to take steps to protect their citizens?

Not sure what you are talking about here exactly, but in the Tampa area they applied all kinds of local restrictions.

We had to wear masks and all that and it was done by local government.

I don't keep up with this stuff, so maybe I am missing something?

He claimed victory over Covid because of low numbers. So if he is going to claim credit for that, then he has to own the massive spike, right? That was the only point, there's really no way to spin his early spike of the football.

I'm gonna have to file that under - who gives a frick.

And then the governor stepped in and banned enforcement. Then banned the school districts from taking action. He is stripping local governments of their public health authority.

So, we're just making up numbers like the CDC got caught doing? Or are we desperately trying to take the cross hairs off Governor Press Conference in New York who absolutely did slaughter 10s of thousands?

Again, you'll have to be more specific than that as I do not know what you are talking about.

Every business I went into 100% of the people wore masks. Not that they actually do much of anything, but people followed the local guidelines.

My comment was a joke specifically about the OP.

Then why did you make two, yes two comments to follow about how silly the National Anthem is to play before a sporting event?

It wasn't a joke. You were making a sincere statement. It was an argument. Crawfish back to DU and get your marching orders before continuing this conversation. You've been busted.

Love the histrionics. You seem more interested in getting outraged, so more power to you. ?
.

You're the one getting "outraged" over a Governor, protecting the rights and freedoms of the residents of Florida. Your entire argument is based on histrionics.

Masks are pointless.

Something else they are not acknowledging is Florida's Covid numbers are better than both New York and California, two states who enacted draconian restrictions. They're full of shite and they know it

The governor issued an executive order in 2020 that banned collection of fines and any penalties associated with Covid mandates. Then had a law passed giving him sweeping powers to invalidate local emergency measures earlier this year. He and the legislature have consistently taken action over the past year now to strip authority from local governments and give it to the governor.

I'm not outraged at all, nor do I think any of my posts could be characterized as such. I don't get outraged over this stuff. I can have a conversation without calling people names or getting upset because people have a different point of view than I.

I wonder how many of the millennial covidians will wear a mask anyway, you know, for their own safety and the safety of others, and stand against the bad people who didn't mandate them, and do their part for humanity, because they are good, kind, and smart people who follow the science. I figure the country is 50/50 split, so I estimate we'll see around half of the crowd in stadiums wearing masks because they know DeSantis [et al] is wrong.

Just because DeSantis didn't mandate them doesn't mean you can't wear them.

So walk the walk, Covidians. Put that fricking mask on. It's a free country and you have the science.

There's been a number of actions taken that remove authority from local governments and give it all to the governor.

Why should a city mayor be able to create laws via executive mandate without any legislative oversight? Sounds like Desantis simply removed the ability of local executive branches from being dictators.

Violations of executive orders in my state is a class A misdemeanor. That means violating a mask mandate could result in a $1000 fine and 11/29 sentence. That’s bullshite IMO. Going further and giving health departments the power to create mandates is even more ridiculous. These elected officials are supposed to represent the people who voted for them, not do what they want when they want.

Some examples of this in action? Because as I said, where I live none of that happened or mattered.
