Why are Florida fans so optimistic about this season?

Fer realz I don't get it.
They went 8-4 with an historically good offense. They lose all of their skill players. Emory Jones looks like a deer in the headlights. Their head coach is a spoiled d-bag. They finished the season with 3 straight losses.
I think they lose to Kentucky this year.
What gives?

They are in the east. Only guaranteed losses are Bama and Georgia. LSU can go either way but they should be much more talented than every other team they play. He's a dickhead but Mullen is incredible with a running QB. I'm not saying they will be good but I understand why they are optimistic.

Meh, LSU beat them with a bunch of backups and first time starters in 2020.

In order:
We have more talent coming in on defense, and we still have some holdovers from last year which was pretty terrible but there are some decent players who stayed behind. (Mostly at the LB/DE area, which is key for Grantham honestly.)
Mullen finally has a running Quarterback at Florida, which is also very nice. He made a QB that didn't fit his system a Heisman Contender, so now that he has someone that can run that system it's pretty nice.
RB room is loaded for the first time in a long time. Several long time veterans, 5-star backups and all of them are decent if not very good with their hands to catch it.
Offensive Line is pretty veteran, receivers are good, TE's are pretty good.
All of it really does come down to the QB, and having a guy for his system, finally.

In our defense: We had already won the East and were definitely looking toward Bama, which is why Florida is the only team to even keep it close with them.
You guys caught us sleep walking, had a few unusual bounces and that's that.

I didn't know the gators had a 5 star qb

Really bad veterans, perhaps. In the bowl game the TEs after Pitts couldn’t catch passes dropped right into their hands…repeatedly. Also, I don’t mean this to trash talk, but I think the days of the Mullen running QB cobbling together 25 points to win a game are over. It’s insufficient to beat the teams you’d really like to beat.
The main returners are from the defense that couldn’t stop Gainesville High. The elite offense has lost all the pieces that made it work. It’s not impossible to have a good season, but it’s going to require giant steps made across every single position group with the exception of RB.

I don't personally like Mullen but he can coach and if you judge talent based on stars this is arguably more talent than he has ever had before.

Their main fundamental in camp has been to drop any shoes, don’t throw them…

I foresee losses to...
Bama
Georgia
LSU
Kentucky
Bama
Georgia
LSU
Kentucky

Like last season I see us splitting those 4 games most likely.

I believe you were thinking of Florida losing to Georgia not Kentucky. Sorry for the misunderstanding on your part.

Going to be so funny when LSU is permanently stuck in the Big 12 west+ Mississippi in a few years after Bama and Auburn move to the East after realignment.

The shoe thrown was the key for LSU win!

Have you ever visited UF campus?
Yowza! Chock full of AAU school attitude!
But also chock full of holy chit I would never want to be a part of that culture attidude.
Evidence: my daughter participated in UF freshman invitation a couple of years ago. Yikes!
Give me culture > AAU. Argue culture all day long if you wish. I will take it.

The backup TE's were good in every single game last year outside of the bowl game. Almost no drops all year.
Seems like everyone played about as bad they could in that bowl game.
I don't see any Gator fans claiming we're going to be great or anything. But the reality is we still have top 10 roster talent in the country. So if some things break our way we could be solid. Especially if Emory figures things out.
