It's coachspeak.

You can't read too much into what he says. Sometimes what he means doesn't come across.

Myles is a better passer, and was way better at the lower percentage throws.

Max was uninjured though, and did finish the season as the starter.

I'm sure whichever one starts game 1 will have earned it.

Imagine being the other guy when you aren’t named the starter and then remember your coach said this…

He's saying that it will he obvious when the season starts. He's basically trying to talk up his coaching staff IMO. He's just a salesman and he goes on and on trying to sale his team and ends up saying weird stuff sometimes.

Ralph Cramden (The Honeymooners Show) would call him a fricking blabber mouth idiot. His brain can't function fast enough to be tactful. He makes predictions his arse can't cash plenty of times. I really like O but he needs to just STFU and show some restraint on his thoughts. Who ever loses out will have no respect for him. Other teammates will see and could be pissed if starter faulters out of the gate. Should have just said we'll see after they compete. Geauuux Tigers

It really seems like he was trying to do the standard thing here and talk up the competition part, and that the winner will eventually emerge (and win the locker room).

But he just sort of boofed it.

Yeah, kinda like how he was trying to talk up his recent DC hire as a guy he hadn't really considered who ended up really impressing him but ended up making it sound like he was justifying fricking the fat chick because she was the last thing available at the bar.

My guess is it's Johnson.

If Myles was the guy, then Finley would still have a shot at replacing him in 2022 (same shot Johnson would). Finley has the better arm and he'd have more time to catch up with the mental part of the game.

But if they're already leaning Johnson, then Finley would be completely out of the competition; and since he transferred out, it seems he felt he was.

Hmm, interesting logic.

That actually makes a lot of sense.

Or Finley saw the writing on the wall when he got benched for Johnson who then clearly outperformed him.

I think LSU goes with Brennan if it's a close competition just because you want to keep Johnson for depth since you assume Brennan is gone if he doesn't win the job.

During a recent appearance on Mike Detillier’s “Sports Talk” show on WWL, Orgeron was asked to share the latest on the quarterback competition down in Baton Rouge.

“We in the locker room know who the best player is, there ain’t no question, everybody knows. It’s going to work itself out and I’m going to let them play,” Orgeron said on the show. “The competition is going to be fierce every day. I told them, everything that you do (will be studied and evaluated) and you know, both those guys along with Garrett [Nussmeier], having some great summers.

“I think it’s going to work itself out. I think it’s going to be obvious. And obviously, you know, game week going into UCLA, we are going to name our starter; but if we could do it before, we can. It’s all going to be a feel thing.”

Now we wait to find out who that will be.

Did that dumb bastard actually say that?
