People like to act like Alabama is just some other school in the SEC and that anyone can be them with the right coach. Where in the history of the Southeastern Conference has this been shown?

How about early 2000s? LSU and Florida were far superior to Bama until Saban showed up.

Alabama wins 1 or 2 from 08-20. Stallings won in 92 and close in 1994.

Stallings better coach than Coach O or Miles.

What were the similarity from Saban and Stallings? Both went to the NFL and then went to Alabama and succeeded!

For the most part I agree. Saban´s a better coach than he was when he landed in Ttown in 07. There´s no reason to think his evolution wouldn´t have happened in Red Stick.

Only sticking point might have been Mal Moore and the way he molded the framework for Saban´s authority. Without total authority over the entire program I don´t think he´d have been as successful no matter where he landed.

Much of Alabama's struggles had to do with the major sanctions Alabama received from the NCAA in both 1995 and again in 2002.

Alabama is the "name" SEC football team, winning at least 1 NC every decade since 1920, except the 50's and 80's

Alabama is either #1 or #2 in TV appearances

Alabama has been to and won more bowl games then any other team

Alabama has 5 head coaches win NC while at Alabama, 4 of them won multiple titles

etc..... so there is something special about Alabama, always will be

Would Coach Saban have as much success at LSU. no

Reason, Alabama probably would have hired Dabo

or

Alabama would have hired Meyer, or Saban (away from LSU)

There is also the fact that if Coach Saban was at LSU in 2013, he would have gone to Texas

And that's where those similarities end. Before Gene Stallings arrived at Alabama in 1990, he had 11 combined seasons as a collegiate and professional head coach. In those 11 seasons, he had exactly one where he finished above .500 for the year. He was a combined 50-79-2 as a head coach prior to 1990. At Alabama, he went 70-16-1 in seven seasons as head coach.

Doubtful.

He could only deliver you half of one in 2003.

He did. If he stays , LSU likely wins 2/3 between 2005,2006, and 2007. Pretty sure the 08/09 drop off does not occur and you likely win 2010 and 2011 back to back (simply based upon existing roster).

Meh, that team won their title on the field.

That's more than could be said for a lot of Alabama teams.

I get you're trying to say that LSU would be at same level as Alabama with Saban staying that's a totally fair argument.

Only thing I disagree with is certain schools do have higher ceiling than others and traditions and prestige does play a role.

Better Topic is to subtract Saban from both programs. Who do you think would have won a title first in the new century Alabama or LSU?

Bama is Bama because of Bear, Stallings and Saban. Not the other way around.

Wallace Wade and Frank Thomas before Bear. But yes, college football is about coaching. Bama has been blessed with more than our share of good coaches. Saban if given full control of LSU's program as he has at Bama, would likely have as much success.

They either have to admit that Miles was a better coach than Saban in that time period or admit that maybe Alabama isn’t particularly special compared to some other schools.

Actually, it shows how special Alabama is when Saban couldn't get to back to back 10 win seasons in 5 years at LSU when he hasn't had fewer than 10 in any season at Bama after the first one.

Saban would have the same success at any school with similar resources and administrative support.

Texas, Georgia, Florida, LSU, Texas A&M, Penn State, Florida state...

He was on the cusp of taking LSU to the next level when he left as evidenced by Miles immediate success.

Miles had three in a row after Saban left. You don’t think Nick could’ve kept that going?
