When have you cheered most for a rival

Any of the big 3 sports, name the time you cheered hardest for a rival that you usually cheer against.
For me, it was 1992 Bama vs Miami. At the time, the SEC was experiencing a national championship drought (at least by SEC standards). Some people were complaining that Bama didn’t belong in the game, pointing at Florida State’s narrow loss to Miami that season, saying that a rematch was the only way to determine who the best team in the nation was that year.
Well, the outcome spoke volumes. That game started a return to prominence by the SEC. My favorite play was watching Teague chase down that Miami receiver from behind.
Honorable mention: 2006 Florida vs Ohio St, mainly because so many people were clamoring for a rematch between Ohio St and Michigan.

I cheer for MS State when they aren’t playing Ole Miss or LSWho now that dickhead Mullen’s is gone. Wish State fans would generally reciprocate but sadly they don’t.

Never have and cannot think of any possible scenario where I would

Not necessarily cheering for my rival, however the national championship game between uga and bama was one i enjoyed. No matter who scored, i got to celebrate a rivals demise.
Bama missing the FG to win in regulation was a nice touch....then seeing Tua rip uga's soul out made me chuckle as well

If UA was playing Al Qaeda University, I'd still pull against them. Then, on the plane ride home, they get notified of impending sanctions.

For me bama when they played UGA in the NC game a few years ago.

LSU is not really a rival but I did pull for them in the '03 CG against Oklahoma.
I won't say that I ever pull for either Tennessee or Auburn, but when they play each other I prefer for Tennessee to win. So I guess that's about as close as I get.

The Big X hype was nauseating. Gators were going to get steamrolled. After the first OSU TD, their fans acted like it was all over. Then 41-7 later…

In a big bowl game I always want to see the conference teams do well. Look at who they are playing against, some big ten team, an ACC team or a big 12 team and I can't pull for those folks at all.
It is a regional pride thing, I fully confess. The national media dumped on the SEC for years way back in the day.

2011 LSU beat Bama in the 9-6 Game of the Century, when Bama missed 4 FGs at home, I smiled and cheered a lil bit.

LSU v Texas in 2019, definitely was wanting a Tiger victory.
Guess that's pulling for one rival over another though.
Have never, and will never, cheer for the whorns to win anything. Football, basketball, baseball, track, underwater basket weaving; let them all be losses

Only when it helps Bama. Otherwise they can all get bent.

Alabama deserved to play for the national title in 1992 and was a worthy champion, but I’m not so sure FSU wasn’t the best team in the latter part of the year.
If the playoffs had existed in 1992 and UA-FSU had been matched up in the semifinals in the Fiesta Bowl or Cotton Bowl (or some bowl like that) I might would favor the Seminoles.

I cheer for Auburn a lot because my girlfriend is an Auburn fan. At least on the outside I'm cheering.

Urban and Saban going to the SEC is what returned it to prominence, or what it is now anyway. From Stallings to Saban, it was pretty much just Florida and Tennessee with a sprinkle of LSU towards the end. The major conferences were more or less equal; at least as far as having at least one title contender; from roughly 1980-2005. You won't see teams like Washington, Colorado, Georgia Tech, VA Tech, Nebraska, Texas, etc compete for a title anytime soon (might be able to throw FSU and Michigan in that mix at some point too).
