This tree is only great while under him.
If you look at this poll, six of the preseason top 25 are former Saban assistants who have used his program model significantly.
Fisher, Cristobal, Smart, and Napier overwhelmingly. Kiffin significantly, although he's definitely less disciplined personally, and brings a lot of Pete Carroll's levity to OM as well. Sark remains to be seen, but I expect you'll see excruciating level of detail in his new approach.
I don't remember a time that one coach has been ranked #1 at the same time six of his former assistants were good enough to be ranked.
Let's not forget Curt Cignetti, who parlayed four years at Alabama into his first HC job and took Saban's method to small school ball. He's made the playoffs seven out of 10 seasons as a DII and FCS HC. He's had James Madison in the semifinals or championship game both of his seasons there.
And Mark Dantonio retired as the winningest coach in MSU history. Even managed to win the B1G three times.

Let's not kid ourselves by saying his HC philosophy is derived from Bowden at all
I didn't say that. His career started with Terry Bowden (10 years). And then he worked for Bobby Bowden for two.
There's no question Saban was a huge influence, but when we are talking true coaching trees, Fisher spent a lot more time with the Bowden family and is a part of that tree.
Hell, for that matter Muschamp started as a GA with Bowden too.
Bama fans have a really weird attachment to Jimbo for some reason and I think that it's because he's been successful and worked for Saban.

This is a weird take. LSU has been competitive, but the reality is:
LSU is 1-9 against Alabama in the past 10 games.
Ole Miss has 2 wins in that time, double LSU.
Auburn has 3. Yet, they are the ones that need the roller coaster climb?

I agree that it is a bit of stretch with that take.
However, I think part of the reasoning behind it is that LSU-Bama have BOTH been ranked Top 5 in 6 of the matchups during this time period. No other regular season CFB matchup can even hold a candle to that in this time frame. While matchup wise Bama has dominated, on paper LSU is the team that should've been their biggest test all year before the CFP. And it's not like every single one of these games were complete blowouts.
