Fisher won a National Championship. Then imploded the program. Has maintained the norm at new program so far.

Boom has been a bust mostly.

Kirby can recruit, but can't beat Orgeron to save his season. Also can't beat Saban.

Pruitt - Don't know if we can blame him...or Tennessee.

Those are the first ones to enter my mind. Are there any real success stories out of the tree besides Jimbo?

And don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking Saban.

Belichick's tree hasn't translated to success after leaving him, whereas Parcells' tree has been pretty successful.

course, Belichick himself may not translate to success after parting with Brady.

If anything, it tells more about how great Saban is. This tree is only great while under him.

What say the Rant?

Saban is the goat. Nothing more to it. There is no coach that will ever come close to what he’s done whether on his “tree” or not. Dabo could probably come close if he comes back to bama after Saban is done. Even if he just goes to 2027 you have to think he’ll win 1 more absolute minimum and probably 2-4. If programs expect Saban output it’s just not gonna be feasible. 10-2, 9-3 seasons used to be ok and the fans would be fine with it. There is no one coach in cfb that has changed the game like he has imo. No one is ok with those seasons anymore in the sec. it’s win it all or get lost.

Uh, you can definitely blame him.

IQ wise, arguably the dumbest person to ever run an SEC program.

Saban has single handedly ruined the sport.

Read an article recently from a few years ago stating that the most important rivalry game in College Football was LSU-Alabama.

He gave a bunch of reasons with numbers and stats, but the main point he was trying to get across was that if Bama got through LSU, you could pretty much pencil them in as the Champs. Unless it was a weird year where Auburn is on the rollercoaster climb, or they lose to Clemson in the NC.

But the game that fans of the sport looked to before championship week or the playoffs the most was LSU-Alabama to see if Bama was going to be stopped that year.

Sure, one year in the last decade they were stopped, but four times in the past decade, those two programs met as top five teams. six times as top ten.

Both teams suffered a slump game (doesn't equal a losing game) after that week every year until they both wised up and started scheduling weak OOC games or convinced the SEC to give them the weakest opponent the next week.

I should look for that article again. A gump wrote it.

But to the quoted line, it's interesting that this guy made that claim about the two programs that Saban created. LSU isn't Bama, but we are more like Bama than any other program. And we are the program that tries not to emulate Bama in every aspect.

Saban turned us into a respectable, winning program and showed us how to do it our way. He then went to Bama and turned them into a juggernaut by showing them how to do it their way. Basically, he showed both how to embrace their culture.

That's the main reason he's the GOAT.

I wonder how much of coaching tree success is related to assistants who brought something to the table on their own rather than what they learned from the boss?

Take Parcells. Successful coach but never sniffed a Super Bowl without Belichick while Saban wins with whoever.

Prety much the path I was attempting to take here. Coaching trees may be the most over-rated thing ever.

And if you are a program looking for a new coach, maybe looking at a successful program for that guy isn't the best option.

Hell, everybody says that Joe Brady was the reason for LSU's NC, but to hear Bridgewater tell it, he's not a big fan of the guy.

Apparently they never practiced two minute or red zone offense at Carolina. And those were the two areas that cost them games.

Joe Brady is a good analyst, but how much of our 2019 offense was really on him? He designed plays, but O and Slinger are the ones who put them into practice apparently.

Who is responsible for the best tree under him then?

Pro ans college?

I honestly could not Tell you, immediately, which coaches coached under who.

If Bowden, Dye and Stallings all coeached under Bryant then there’s your man.

So he gave everyone winning expectations, I’m all for it. It’s the way it should have always been. 2nd, 5th, 11th, 8th place trophies don’t exist. Win a championship, or try harder next season. But, don’t celebrate mediocrity.

Fisher is an offensive coach and learned his stuff from Terry Bowden. He also had Bobby Bowden. How many “trees” can one coach come from?

Started with him at Samford and was with Tater Tot for 10 years.

Coach Bryant had four of his former coaches/players to win nat'l championships (Dietzel, Stallings, Danny Ford, and Howard Schnellenberger), but he had a couple of dozen in the NFL at one time or another...back then, that's where coaches could make some money.

then until I see some others chime in, I am left to assume that Bryant has the best tree while saban has the best career of all time.

Fisher learned offense from Terry Bowden. Let's not kid ourselves by saying his HC philosophy is derived from Bowden at all. Particularly since he was pretty open about installing Saban's "Process" at FSU.
