US News and World Report rankings are based more on research than any other variable.

I take it the college experience is a big factor? If it were strictly a business decision, send him to Lamar to major in engineering. Get in and out, start making $100k+ out of school.

For Ag programs Auburn and Mississippi state have good programs. Tennessee is also a good choice. Doing some campus visits will help your son choose the program that is the best fit for him. Good luck!

Whoever gives the best scholarships and he can get a degree with the least amount of out of pocket costs.
Contrary to marketing materials, it really doesn't matter where you go as long as you get the degree...and it really doesn't matter after you get a few years of work experience. Once you get past the Ivy League schools, Duke, Vandy, Stanford and a very few highly ranked public institutions like UVA...the name on the diploma is pretty irrelevant... even though people who attended school X or whatever would argue otherwise.
Anyway, don't go into debt chasing a name.

Depends on the major and what you want to do. For some majors, like Architecture for example, school name matters for getting that first job (even if you have an incredible portfolio). And the first job + school builds your pedigree, which is important for designing certain building types.

I'd suggest the Mason City School of Auctioneering.

Well done, gents. Least trolling I've seen in a thread in quite some time.

Look into Arkansas.
The out of state tuition is cheap if you live in one of the surrounding states.

My son had the same issues when he was a senior at Garland High School. His school was the gifted and talented school for all the kids in the city. So he was competing against the best. His class rank was just outside the 10% and didn’t get any Texas offers. He had friends that were in the same situation and thay all had SAT scores from 1290-1500. LSU offered them all full tuition scholarships and books. Only meals and boarding wasn’t paid. At the time you only needed I believe a 1250 on the SAT to qualify for the scholarship. They all jump on that offer and now all are very successful people in the business world. Go for the scholarship money!

Alabama is pretty generous with tuition scholarships, but I think they kinda jack up the room and board costs and fees to make up for it.
So you have a full tuition scholarship if your GPA and test scores are high enough, sounds great, but you're still looking at $50-60,000 in loans or savings to cover the rest over 4 years.
Vandy advertises "no student loans" if you get in...but the "expected family contribution" amount considers you a Rockefeller descendent.
It's all just a big business with huge marketing budgets. Don't get caught up in the emotion of it.

Does he want to focus on the importing, or the exporting?
