As noted, Brea didn't start but he played 26.5 and 29.1 minutes per game the last 2 seasons - equivalent of starters minutes for them. They basically played 6 guys 28+ minutes and then 2 guys 8 minutes a night.
He played more MPG than everyone on our roster last year other than Sears and Estrada.

So the 6th man thing is pretty misleading. What we’re really looking at is a starter from a 7-seed that won a game in the tourney
My biggest concern is that he had 19 dunks and layups total last year as a 6-6 guard. Rylan had 73. I’m thinking he’s not particularly athletic. What is very clear is that he can shoot the lights out and is very good at finding space for 3s. Even if you filter the competition to Top 100 and Top 50 teams, he still shot 50% from 3
He’d be an A++ replacement for Walters but just an ok one for Rylan

From Trilly earlier today

"I was told Cliff Omoruyi *should* start visits this week. Not sure who all is getting one. Reading the tea leaves I’d say Alabama is one. Possibly K-State, Florida and Baylor too. I’m sure there are others but it’s been hard to get a good read on him."

The golden goose right there.

That's reasonable competition. What i didn't want to see was a desperate blue blood with a huge NIL budget, like Indy or Kentucky.

Texas A&M
Xavier

I guess we aren't going to reach out.

Has anyone told Rylan Griffin? I heard he’s seeking a championship.

Maybe because we already have two guard/ wings from the portal in Youngblood and Mallette, plus Cunningham from fall recruiting, and we really need a solid point guard in case Sears enters the draft as many expect. Another rim protector (in addition to Sherrell there) and a point should be top priorities.

I also don't think Nate is a big fan of 1-dimensional guards/wings, no matter how good that one aspect is. But then again, Brea might be one of those ultra elite shooters that he hopes he can help him grow their offensive toolkit.

Aden Holloway to Bama seems like a good chance of happening. Idk how to feel, he definitely has potential.

He and Cliff are supposed to visit soon unless something changes. Holloway has a high upside, great potential as a passer and shooter and doesnt turn it over much. He’d be a lot better in Oats system than he was in pearls.

I really like the idea of bringing him in, but I hate what it probably means (though definitely not unexpected).

I’d love to have Sears back but his stock probably wont get any higher by coming back than it is now off him being the highest scoring guard in the NCAAT and leading us to a final 4.
I think Nelson could raise his stock by coming back, but Sears probably couldnt.

Think Holloway would be a very good fit here. Good shot, deep range, doesn't turn the ball over. He needs to get better at finishing at the rim, but he was a small freshman last year.
The way we play and the unlimited confidence the staff gives shooters would be huge for him after his mental block last year. We ask the PG to be much less of a singular focal point than Bruce does because of our system, which I think is also a big help.

On the other side, his odds of making the NBA don’t really change between 2024 and 2025. If we could guarantee 750k in ttown, then it’s a good option knowing that the NBA will be there next year
Low risk with the potential to double dip. Now if someone tells him “we will draft you in the middle of the 2nd round” then he may need to go

Yeah I'd drop an absolutely massive bag for Sears if it would get him back for another year.
It's certainly possible that he has achieved enough of his personal goals (All American, Final Four, counting stats, etc.) that he no longer has anything he feels he has to prove here though. Really couldn't say I blame him if that's how he feels. He's had an amazing career.
