LSU’s only national champion year that was impressive was 2019

People often forget that 2007 was a poor man’s COVID year.
- a lower ranked or unranked opponent beat the higher ranked opposition 59 times that year
- teams in the AP top 5 were defeated 13 times, a feat that’s only been come relatively close to back in 1967
- the #2 ranked team was defeated 7 times in the final 9 weeks of the season
All these combined to ultimately lead LSU and Ohio State, who, collectively lost to the unholy trinity of Kentucky, Arkansas and Illinois that year. West Virginia should’ve been in the national championship instead of LSU but they choked against Pittsburgh in the final week of the season, which allowed LSU to use that extra SECCG (which was the biggest cakewalk of all SECCGs since the inception) to push them to a spot in the game.
Then we get to the original Death Star, Darth Saban’s 2003 tigers. I’m not really gonna shite on these dudes too much, because there were some ballers on this squad, but the team and season collectively were underwhelming for very upfront reasons. One of the first examples of Nick Saban losing inexplicably to underclassmen players with highly superior players was the 2003 Florida Gators.
Ron Zook took a Leak on the tigers in Tiger Stadium to the tune of 7-19 in a classic SEC shootout. Fast forward to the end of the season and LSU faces Oklahoma in basically a home game in the super dome and wins 21-14. But, that Oklahoma team just a month earlier got toasted by Snyder and his squad of wildcats 35-7 and somehow STILL got in the championship game.
So yes, you can brag about 3 coaches having 3 championships at your school. But 1 of them isn’t even unanimous and the other is in a season that literally breaks records for how mediocre the top teams are.

So you are saying the coach of the one legit National Championship win was Orgeron? That settles it then, he is the goat.

2007 LSU was not a great football team. But it's a year by year sport and they deserved the national championship that year. But they would lose to every subsequent champion and would lose to the majority of them by 10+ points.

Okay, fan of school that claims a national title during a season they finished 20th in the AP Poll

2009- Colt McCoy Hurt
2011- Didn’t win division or conference

Sounds like a year with a lot of parity.

Nice work. Definitely takes a backseat to the New England dynasty of the past 20 years.

Are those championship years?! For one team??!! Geesh that's a lot of ships!
Anyway didn't the 2003 have some good future nfl players on it or was that the 2007 team?
