I saw this on MF but it was pre-playoff

quote:

“I've definitely thought about it,” senior tight end Miller Forristall said on Dec. 29, but added that his focus was elsewhere at the time. "If I stay another year I'll push for even more guys to come back.”

He has until March 1 to make a decision for the draft along with Ben Davis, Josh McMillion and Charlie Scott (grade transfer) technically because they are seniors. I believe Ray has until the end of the day today to declare. Haven't see anything on any of them.

Ah, so seniors have longer. Didn't realize that.

Is every team constrained to the 85 scholarship limit next season?
What is any team to do if, for example, every player returned?

Don't know, could be wrong but I don't think they have said anything about it. Looks like the NCAA is waiting to see how things play out although I might have missed a decision.

Ben Davis made a pretty good tackle in the 'ship. Grabbed the RB with one arm and pulled him down from behind. Josh McMillon had a good year in the FB role.

I think Ray comes back and has a big year. Of all those guys he probably has the best opportunity to go pro in the future.

Charlie Scott might stick around just bc he spent some of his college years at the Air Force academy and I imagine he's still got some wild oats to sow. His life today vs his life at the academy have got to be night and day.

I hope he has a great career. He's got a couple rings and a couple degrees to show for his efforts here. TYFYS Josh McMillon

Wish him all the best but I don’t understand why guys like him and Carl Tucker declare for the draft when they have zero chance of getting drafted. Do they have to declare officially to get an UDFA tryout?

I mean UDFA means Undrafted free agent . I'm guessing but I am pretty sure the NFL would frown on guys trying to circumvent the draft process whether they are likely to be drafted or not.

Because they have college degrees - in McMillon's case a masters degree - and they're like 23-24 years old. They've played several years of college football. I'm sure they understand that their careers are likely over and getting onto an NFL roster will be an uphill battle, but they're probably just ready to get on to the next stage of life.

I get that and agree. Just wondering why they have to officially declare for the draft? Can’t they just say, hey finished two degrees, moving on with life, hope to get a tryout with an NFL team, thanks for the memories!

I still have to ask why you believe the NFL would be ok with them circumventing the draft process? It exist for parity purposes and the NFL has no idea who teams are willing to draft.

"You miss every shot you don't take - Wayne Gretzky" - Michael Scott

Entering their names into the draft doesn't penalize them or anything. Might as well hope for the best. Also I think you have to file paperwork to be eligible for NFL employment as a player.

Josh McMillon has three National Championship rings. 15, 17, and 20. He was a 6th year senior.

Players that stayed on the roster from 2009-12. So not all that many. I think Barrett Jones started on all 3 of those National Championship teams.
