why do you stupid A@M tards talk shite about a team that owned you for years in the Big 12. Just because you had a soft schedule and was paired up against a bad UNC team....doesnt mean your on our level. YOUR a farm school.

Will they also "opt out" once their NFL team is out of the playoff race?
I can see it maybe if you're a first round lock even if I don't like it...but otherwise, it's an opportunity for mid round guys to show out and move up in the draft pecking order. And I know it doesn't matter at all for some, including some NFL GMs, but if I was filling in my draft board, a guy quitting on his team would definitely be a character factor.

Trask loses almost exactly 50% of his passing yards with Pitts also out.
Interesting though, this should be a showcase game for Trask to NFL scouts.
Playing against a top 20 defense without his 3 top targets.
If I was personally involved, I may feel differently, but, imo, it's selfish for a player to walk off on their teammates and supporters, including their school. Any time a player walks on the field there's a possibility for jury...it's part of the game, but how can a person who has gone through all the hardships with his/her teammates just say to them, "I'm outta here, fend for yourselves." If I was an NFL GM or scout, I'd remember how that prospect treated his teammates and supporters when it came time to evaluate them.

We saw what he looked like against LSU without Pitts. Not sure what he's going to do without Grimes, Pitts, Copeland and Toney out, especially with no running game to speak of. That's about 2800 of his 4125 passing yards. Damn.

This opting out shite for NFL combine pisses me off. It didn’t happen back in the day. And the COVID shite is the f’ing flu. I’m calling bullshite.

OU was without their #1 RB, #1 pass rusher, and a 5* WR against LSU.
You think that accounted for that 35 point loss?

I don't know what the solution is, but the trend is not good for college football fans.
Unless college football players become contract employees, there is no solution to get them to play in bowl games. Expanding the playoffs would only add a few more teams that won't have to worry about players skipping bowl games. The non-playoff bowl games would be devalued even more than they already have been.
Honestly, a solution that wouldn't completely fix it but would at least add excitement for more than we have now would be going back to the pre-BCS days where the #1 and #2 teams didn't necessarily play each other. Ever since we decided upon a system to match-up the top 2 teams to try to avoid split titles, bowl season has slowly lost importance to fans and players. That and the financial explosion that has occurred in CFB where everyone but the players have become exponentially richer. Money and greed is what has ruined the college football we all loved, but such is the case in all walks of life. It's only a matter of time where it's just like the NFL, only with younger players and more teams.

I agree. And while a guy like Pitts may not have much left to prove, a guy like Grimes does. He is physically gifted, but he hasn’t had much production. Without Pitts, Toney, or Copeland, Grimes would be the focal point of the offense and could showcase his talent. It feels like an easy sell for Mullen, but he failed.

I totally understand the risk vs reward decision. But "opt out" needs to be replaced. They are deciding that it is no longer worth it to play for UF. That's quitting
After coronavirus it will just be called a business decision not to play.

These bowls are glorified exhibitions though.
In fairness, until 1968, bowl games, quite literally, were exhibitions. Champions were crowned prior to bowl season, and many times bowls simply tried to match up teams to maximize revenue. Outside a few bowls, there was no such thing as automatic bowl tie-ins. However, that system also didn't result in players deciding to skip them. But, the big difference is, very few players got rich playing football back then and they also had a lot more pride in their schools and the game than players do now.

Even 1st round guys can boost their stock. Jamarcus Russell was not even mentioned as the #1 overall pick until he shredded Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl. I think, ultimately, players have a greater chance of boosting their draft stocks by playing than they do hurting their draft stocks by getting injured. But as long as agents are in their ears and showing them money in hand now to skip bowl games, it's going to be unrealistic to expect a demographic of largely poor kids to say no and still play.

He was great against Arkansas and Vanderbilt without Pitts.
But yeah, the LSU game is all that anyone will remember.

Knew it. Think our offense will still be solid though. I like our young WRs and TEs a lot. Will depend on the D.
