You know what is even worse? Never kicking at all before like Sarah Fuller. No shite kicking in high school is different. But if we're talking about an emergency situation, who are you going to go with 1) the goalie from the girl's soccer team with no kicking experience; or 2) one of several guys with experience at the high school level?

There was a reason behind that at-least. To break an NCAA passing record. Something that actually goes down in the record books and means something.

If the game had played out normally though that record doesn't happen. It's a cheesy way to grab a record. I doubt Florida would've done it had it not been against Miami but seeing as how it was Miami, rubbing salt in a wound like that was more or less 'ok' with fans and the coaching staff.

We're assuming these guys are available and want to do it. I don't think that's the case. I think if anyone on Vandy's team had actually wanted to kick then they would've kicked.

There's nothing to assume. They asked to do it

Who wanted to? Did they get beat out? Because Vandy is bad enough this year to where I can believe that even their kicker can get beat out by a soccer player.

If I were the players on the team, I would probably be most mad that she was named player of the week by the conference for 5 seconds of mediocre performance.

Have you not read any of this thread and just decided to jump in at the end to have everything explained all over again? All of this has been covered

Yeah, well, I'll bet you more people on this board know the name Sarah Fuller than John Reaves.

There was never any "beating out" because there wasn't a tryout. Vandy just went to her and asked her to do it. That's a big part of what pisses people off.

For anyone unfamiliar with what a chick athlete means when she says cheering, I encourage you to watch any girls softball game from pee wee league stuff up to college. It will be the most mind numbing, insufferable, gawd-awful, screeching nightmare of your life. You will claw your ears out if that’s a thing. A guy would get his arse kicked for even contemplating that madness. If you throw in The Whistler, you’ve got the makings for a mass shooting.

Probably nothing to do with the coach being fired.

Imagine working hard all off-season, putting up with covid restrictions, and doing everything you've been asked to do....only to have the university tell you none of that matters. The depth chart has been thrown out for a cheap publicity stunt.

Yeah, I'd opt out of the season too and just wait for the off-season to weigh my options.

LSU had a Punter who was the team hype man several years ago. He could get the damn locker room fired up before a game, too. It was still pretty weird, though. That’s the only time I’ve ever heard of that.

The fact that anyone is defending her or Vandy is appalling. Imagine Saban doing this... Vandy thought no one would question it because they are Vandy but it backfired. If she doesn’t kick an actual kickoff or attempt a 30+ yard field goal and actually come close to making it or making it, then there’s literally no chance in hell she deserves to even sniff a roster spot. Someone on that team or at that school can do those two things I’m sure.

Will the girl’s different kicking style work out in the sport and ,specifically, the league? I don’t know, but there’s nothing wrong with a winless team trying it out.

Dude, if she was legitimately better than their other kickers, I would be the first to tip my cap to her. She objectively isn’t. If you sit better players to try and get another photo op with her, then that deserves to be called out.

So why are they blaming her for saying yes? That's not her fault any more than it's the initial kicker's fault for being out. I honestly don't get why in the hell anyone is rolled the frick up over who kicks for Vandy when COVID has absolutely created a novel situation for them. That's been true for them all season.

One thing that keeps getting missed is that kicking in HS is VERY different than kicking in college. High schoolers are using kicking blocks that aren't allowed in college. It's wrong to assume that someone who kicked in HS can pick it up in college with a few days practice because it's not the same at all. Those kicking blocks make a world of difference. Beyond that, why would the backup QB or whoever want to kick on national tv? Kicking offers very little reward and a high chance of very public failure, especially if all you've done is kick some in HS because no one else would do it.

The point is that Vandy lied by omission about there being no other options. And kicking in HS may be different, but why not have a damn tryout to see if these former HS kickers could handle kicking without the block?

Vandy is in complete disarray right now and has been reaching to field a team at all. Their problems started before this season began because of their location, student body composition, and COVID. They also knew ahead of this season that Mason likely wouldn't be retained. They suck badly this year because most of the people playing for them this season don't 'deserve' to be there and wouldn't be there any other year even on a Vandy team but between a lame duck coach and a pandemic things worked out for those guys who always wanted to play a season of college ball. In that regard, she's not any different than a ton of players on the roster.

I'm obviously not a Vandy fan but I don't think Vandy's Admin is doing this for publicity or for some weird culture war. I don't think they give a damn what football does as long as they keep their image relatively clean (meaning no more James Franklin gang rape scandals).

People talk about the PR of this but I don't see this as a benefit to them at all. Vanderbilt sells itself academically. It doesn't want PR brought to a winless team that only highlights what a clusterfrick they have on their hands in that sphere. They'd much rather we all be discussing Dolly Parton's gift to Vanderbilt affiliated researchers to help find a COVID vaccine.

People aren't blaming her, she is a pawn.

Although she is trying to act like she can kick by posting videos of her kicking a soccer ball on twitter. She should just say they ask me to help and I was glad to do it and would do it again if asked. But now she is doubling down, which is fine by me. Let her kick like a real kicker and see if she is any good now that she wants to talk shite.
