Saban: Good defense doesn't beat good offense anymore, UGA has an elite D and we scored 41

"It used to be that good defense beats good offense. Good defense doesn't beat good offense anymore," Saban told ESPN on Friday. "It's just like last week. Georgia has as good a defense as we do an offense, and we scored 41 points on them [in a 41-24 Alabama win]. That's not the way it used to be. It used to be if you had a good defense, other people weren't going to score. You were always going to be in the game.
"I'm telling you. It ain't that way anymore."
And how's that sit with Saban, one of the foremost defensive minds in the game and the architect of some of the more dominant defenses in college football over the last two decades?
"I don't like it," he said with a wry smile. "But we just have to make sure we have an offense that's that way and that explosive, which we have."
"It's hard to coach defense now, because there are so many run-pass concepts in what everybody does," Saban said. "I mean, it's really, really hard to coach the secondary ... because you get so many mismatches back there."
"We're not very good on defense, average at best, but I think we will get better," said Saban, adding that to be elite on defense requires being especially good in the secondary.
"We're going to get there, but this group [in the secondary] doesn't have enough experience. You've got to go through growing pains with these guys because they see so much stuff now in college football. We see something different every week."

Good to see Saban agrees with me

Well duh.
You need to have a good defense to get some timely stops, but in today’s game, you need an elite offense.

He’s dead on the money. It’s pretty impressive that as a defensive minded coach, he’s been able to understand the changes to rules and schemes and adjust his offensive philosophy to remain competitive with the best in the country.
It’s also frustrating and strange to watch formerly elite defensive teams like Bama and LSU win at a high level with top notch offenses and swiss cheese defenses.

Saban is spot on.
Historically a great defense has normally shut down great offenses.
These days great offenses chew up great defenses all the time.
Without rule changes I sadly never see the situation changing back to the defenses favor.

Good offense and refs. Bama will get spanked by Clemson or OSU again when they have to deal with a more neutral officiating crew

It's crazy that Saban as the most senior coach is the most innovative, progressive and the least old-school.

LSU wasn't a "swiss cheese" defense especially at the end of the year.
Lets not forget Bama was gifted one TD on a PI on 3rd and long and awarded a 1st down on another PI that immediately led to a TD.
Monken should have kept the ball on the ground in the 3rd qtr instead of putting the game in Bennett's hands.

All these Bama cocksuckers can't see it. They'll be brought back to reality when they are in the playoff and the officiating crew isn't there to save them when the game gets close. Another 44-16 coming soon

Bro I cannot wait until y'all play with an officiating crew that doesn't make the other teams DB's play patty cake with you. 44-16 will look like child's play. Exactly what the trashiest, most bandwagon fan base in the country deserves

That's total bullshite, bro. The Red Elephant Club has influence with the College Football Officiating, LLC, association all across the United States, not just within the SEC.
Alabama will never be behind the 8 ball, as they say, when it comes to officiating. It's best to just learn how to live with that fact and quit your baby crying and screeching; it's aggravating.
