I don't think Mac Jones is going to be running the same offense this time around. I think we are going to rely on a punishing ground attack and it may not have much to do with his skill set. I'm going to be shocked if teams have to break out their Dime packages to scheme our offensive attack beyond down and distance.
I kinda disagree! I’ve mentioned this before but the Auburn game plan was a masterpiece in my opinion, we had a steady dose of Najee, mixed in with a passing attack that spread the ball all over the field.
I believe that was one of Sarks best called games even with the turnovers.

I think this offense has a chance to be just as lethal as the Tua led offenses. It will be different, but no less dangerous as it will be more balanced, have the ability for a big strike as well as a slow, grind the clock, keep the D fresh drives. This is the kind of offense Saban dreams of. And it may make our defense much better in the process by giving them time to rest and adjust on the sideline. If our kicking game is up to par and our secondary can get things figured out as they go, this team has a legit shot to go the distance.

Bama shredded a damn good Auburn D that day

And our defense got shredded by another freshman QB in Bo Nix. Let's hope whatever change we see Saturday, will be a change for the better.

I honestly don't think Shane Lee will take a meaningful snap again unless he drops a lot of weight.
Other than playing in goal line or short yardage situations against teams where the QB is under center, I wouldn't be surprised.

I'm not sure going 15 of 30 for 173 yards qualifies as "shredding." He was semi-effective as a runner, but even then he wasn't exceptional (7 rushes, 44 yards).
The biggest issues in that game were the two pick-sixes, and Alabama allowing Auburn to extend drives via penalties (we gave them five first downs that way, which was more than Auburn got in any other game last year; their next highest number of first downs via penalty in a game was 3). Auburn only scored three offensive touchdowns in the game.

No, its definitely not "shredding," and the "big plays" that Nix did pull off, he earned them. I recall a few perfectly placed balls and/or great catches in very tight coverage.

Damn, didn't realize that.

Doesn't change my point. The defense was the gift that just kept giving, all season. When is scoring over 40 points not enough? When you look at the scoreboard at the end of the game and it ain't enough. I want to see a better team on both sides of the LOS Saturday and so does most everyone else.

Yep. It's mainly the defensive performance that has to be much improved over last season, but very costly avoidable offensive turnovers also contributed to last year's losses to LSU and AU.

Partly why I just don't think we are going to see fast and furious this weekend. I believe coach Saban has given a lot of thought on how this team can better complement each other on the field. There's always a recipe for that.

Well, see, the point you're making here:
quote:wasn't what you actually said in your post. What you said was "Freshman QB Bo Nix shredded our defense," which wasn't accurate. In fact, Bo Nix statistically had a worse game against us than his average for the year.
The defense was the gift that just kept giving, all season.
The defense wasn't perfect against Auburn by any stretch, but one could argue they played well enough to win. We held them to 354 total yards, their fifth-lowest total in the regular season.
By the same token, the offense wasn't outstanding, but again, one could argue they did enough to win the game. We put 515 yards of offense on them, more than anyone else they played all year. We scored five offensive touchdowns against them -- again, more than anyone else did all year.
What happened against Auburn is the same kind of crap that always seems to happen in Jordan-Hare: weird bounces, fluke plays, strange calls.
Having said all that ... I agree we should be a better defensive team in 2020. I'm hopeful that will be the case.

Exactly why I refuse to watch another Iron Bowl when it is in Auburn. I will find something else to do but fell for it in 2013 and fell for it in 2019

I wonder if they ever thought about trying Lee with his hand in the dirt

True but this was on only 65 plays. And they were for the most part always ahead of schedule. We got them into 3rd and 6+ only 3 times in the 2nd half

I expect unpredictable playcalling, a balance of running and passing and varied tempo. Generally, Sark likes to be unpredictable and force the defense have to defend the entire field, including short, intermediate and deep passes. If they try to load up the box to stop the run, we'll pass more. He and Saban like explosive chunk plays to loosen up the defense and want to go up tempo some too.

He is too short and his arms are also probably too short. He just needs to drop ten or fifteen pounds.

Agree, but it's not like he's fat. He looked like a tank in HS before he ever saw a college weight room. Some guys are just built like bowling balls. Not sure he'll be able to get down to 225-230, which is what he really needs to be at at his hight to play against SEC speed. If anyone can help him reshape his body, it's our S/C staff, so we'll see.

Mac Jones, just ridiculous.
Guys like Bryce Young are here for 3 seasons. Why stunt his growth? Give him those game reps. Mac is an average guy, a dime a dozen.
I see someone let huddle Ledbetter or one of the other three stooges back in.
