Yeah they turrible.
I've said this for a long time.
Great for a freshman is just that... for a freshman. It isnt great. It necessarily isnt good, either.
Most players need their third season before they near their potential.
Just remember that during the course of the 2020 season.

Greg Eiland at State is number two on that list, but it sounds like they are moving him inside to guard this year. He's played a lot of games in his career but he always seemed too slow to play tackle effectively in the SEC. Josh Allen absolutely humiliated him in Lexington two years ago.

Cool, not relevant to the point though.

On the flip side of things, you hear a lot about how good UK's OL was, and it's no joke, the best OLine in the conference last year probably as a unit. UGA had a small chink in the chain, Bama is also very comparable though to UK
- Of the UK primary 5 starters; Jackson, Sternberg and Fortner inside as well as Young and Kinnard on the outside...NONE of them graded out below a 75.3, that's incredible.
I know some want to pass it off to lack of passing game last season, but a good chunk of those guys also got a lot of PT as younger players coming in for the 2018 season when we got to 10 wins. And Stoops has made it a point to recruit strong lines, especially offensively.
Really excited to see what they can achieve this season with Wilson back, but still a very good stable of RBs in Rose, Smoke, and Rodriguez.

Yeah UK has had some strong lines overall. bigger problem has been skill position players just not being able to take advantage really.

And not a Kentucky OL to be seen on that list
I know Kentucky's OL is legit this year, but this is a pass blocking stat. Kentucky averaged like 9 pass attempts a game last year. Hell they might not even hit 100 minimum pass attempts threshold. With as few passes as UK attempted last year, and a running QB, this stat was always going to be skewed in your favor.

Which is why, in a later post, I pointed out that this argument would be used but most of the guys starting this year were also the line that blocked for Terry Wilson when we won 10 games in 2018. So to say their strength is predicated on just last season wouldn't really be accurate. They were a good OL in 2018 as well.

I love the argument that 2 All SEC freshman tackles (with another year under their belt), a 6th year Senior C, All American G, and an 11 game starter for the 12-2 dawgs last season is somehow shitty
VOLS gonna ball

List is shite. Doesn’t account for the fact JG holds the ball, on average, twice as long as a normal D1 QB.

Exactly. Do you not realize how slim the pickings are for all FRESHMAN teams are for OL? Clearly, one could be a below average player and earn such a distinction.

Well then in that case, they sucked less than every other true freshman and redshirt freshman that played OL last year. I am still trying to figure out why thats a bad thing?
They got a year of game experience and now have a year in the off season program. They have the size, talent and resources for development into elite offensive lineman. One can reasonably expect improvement from year 1 to year 2, and we are excited for that potential especially with a veteran presence to guide them. The kids wouldn't have gotten offers from every elite school in the US if they didn't have potential.
Its hard to bust into the Oline as a true frosh in the SEC, no shite. They'll get better, we hope

Players don’t often go from not good to great in one offseason, so it would be wise to pump the breaks on expectations for the vol OL, but go on believing the hype. It’s likely the 3rd best OL in the east.

Im not sure hype is the right word, im not saying we will have the best OL in the history of time, but it is true that we have the pieces for the best OL weve seen for a long time, and we finally have a coach worth a damn with regards to player development. I will not be pumping any brakes, and you can go on keep predicting the future. Ill just wait and see
3rd best line in the east is likely 4th best line in the SEC...oh how awful that would be

The freshman all conference team depends a lot on how many kids you're competing against. There could be better kids on deeper, more talented units who don't see the field thus aren't in consideration.
Would either of those kids have been top 7 overall in the SEC?

True for conference selections. Morris, however, was Freshman All-American...not just All-SEC.

Why do you keep defending this hill?
Let me ask you, how many votes did Morris get for All SEC? A freshman All American surely got votes for All SEC, amirite? Even if he wasn't 1st team, 2nd team, or 3rd team, he was an honorable mention?
OK. So maybe Morris didnt get any consideration for All SEC in 2019. Surely once we remove the seniors and early entrants to the NFL, Morris will be on the preseason All SEC lists. No? I mean, we are only considering 3 recruiting classes (including sophomores such as himself). Surely he is a preseason or honorable mention for ALL SEC?

For 247 sports per Ut’s own website, and the point still remains the same.
