Alabama coach Nick Saban, along with two of his star players, pushed back Monday on the narrative that players are more at risk of contracting the coronavirus if the college football season is played this fall.

"I want to play, but I want to play for the players' sake, the value they can create for themselves," Saban told ESPN. "I know I'll be criticized no matter what I say, that I don't care about player safety. Look, players are a lot safer with us than they are running around at home. We have around a 2 percent positive ratio on our team since the Fourth of the July. It's a lot higher than that in society. We act like these guys can't get this unless they play football. They can get it anywhere, whether they're in a bar or just hanging out."

Alex Leatherwood, Alabama's All-America offensive tackle, said the players should have the opportunity to be heard before any final decisions are made.

"There's a lot of noise and bad stuff out there about playing football with the virus going on, but I haven't really seen anything about what the players want," Leatherwood told ESPN. "We've been grinding all summer, and you don't want it to be all for nothing.

"The story that needs to be written is that we want to play."

quote:

"Coach Saban listens to his players and wants to hear from us first," Alabama senior running back Najee Harris told ESPN. "He told us that none of this is about him, but it's about us. He wants to hear our concerns, and we made it clear that we want to play and feel like Alabama is doing everything they can to make sure we can play safely."

Its almost as if the people in charge of these schools never actually went to school. As in actually had a real experience.

Most of these places voting against football are going to be holding on campus classes for lots or even all students.

Guess where they are all going to be? At bars or house parties.

You fricking morons. You have done NOTHING to help anyone. Only killed sports and dreams.

That is the tipping point. Saban is the face of CFB. He is the most revered and respected. What he says matters more.

Now I see why Saban is such a great Recruiter

Not many guys his age have a pathway of open communications, that goes both ways with young men 18 to 23

Although he's firm and demanding, he still knows how to partner with his Players at the right time on the right issues

More schools in the SEC should be like Bama under Saban's leadership

Good job Coach Saban

Coaches and players want to play.

University presidents and the NCAA want to avoid liability.

Fans want to watch the games.

So long as the Universities do the following, I think they should all play:
1. Agree to cover any and all medical costs for athletes if they get Covid.
2. Get liability waivers from players acknowledging they accept the risks and will not sue schools, coaches, and faculty/administration.
3. Offer the option to remain on scholarship if the players decline to play, **BUT** players will then be required to maintain a higher GPA than otherwise needed (as the scholarship becomes an academic one if they are not engaged in athletics).

As far as the stadium not becoming one giant petri dish... I don't know. Maybe have mandatory mask usage within the stadium? I'd say simply ask people, but I watch people look at a sign that says, "Please wear a mask" with as much disdain as a sign that says, "I banged your mom."
