Tuscaloosa would be a great city to spend 4 or 5 years in.

My company transferred me to T-Town and I lived there five years. Great small city for older empty-nest couple.

Fayetteville ranks every bit equal with Athens and with its own different vibe.

Fayetteville is nice but it doesn’t have a thing on Athens. It’s bar scene and night life is much smaller, has less attractions, and way less things to do. It is a really nice southern city though.

True statement. Really enjoyed my visit when Bama played in Lexington in 2009. Beautiful weather, women in short skirts, the Bourbon did flow freely and it was a packed house. Good Times!

Walt Maddox has done a ton for the City of Tuscaloosa the last 15 years. If you can’t see the progress he’s made, then that’s on you.

He did good until he ran for governor. After that he became a dumbass. His heart isn’t in it any more. Crime has gotten really bad the past few years under his watch and he’s clueless.

Lexington is the most wronged on the list. Clean city at one end of the Bourbon Trail, beautiful horse farms, and a really cool state.

Baton Rouge is a complete shite hole. There’s decent pockets especially near campus but overall it’s a cross between Beaumont and Jackson.

The Fayetteville MSA includes multiple cities and counties that have nothing to do with the University & main campus. You can't collectively compare Rogers, Springdale, Bentonville, & Fayetteville, etc. to Athens. That's essentially comparing a section of a state to a single city.

Athens is also considered apart of the greater Atlanta area with a population of 6.7 million if you want to do regions.

It’s not just Tuscaloosa, it’s the whole state that is that bad.

People refer to the "Northwest Arkansas" or "NWA" area as a whole more often than a single city though since they are all within about 30 minutes of each other. Just like no one calls them the Arlington Cowboys.

I understand, but surely you see the fallacy in comparing an entire section of a state to a city. The article was about the town in which the University is located.

Any body that is a fan of the state that houses Gravy Chambers is automatically disqualified from talking shite about other states.

College towns for the most part pretty blah outside of football season. I compare towns that are known for colleges to beach cities, outside of spring break and summer, those beach cities are just normal.

It's not great. Certainly nothing charming about it. The campus itself is beautiful but the town is definitely not great.

It's difficult to rank the SEC Towns 1-14 because there is obviously a gigantic difference in a city the size of Nashville compared to a city like Starkville. With that said, I'd rank them like this:

1. Athens
2. Fayetteville
3. Auburn
4. Nashville
5. Oxford
6. Columbia, MO
7. Knoxville
8. College Station
9. Tuscaloosa
10. Baton Rouge
11. Gainesville
12. Lexington
13. Starkville
14. Columbia, SC

I like the quaintness of a small to medium sized college town, so Nashville, Baton Rouge, Knoxville, Lexington, and Columbia SC were somewhat penalized for being so large.

I think that is a picture of the Boca Raton Resort and Club in Boca Raton. Was there last summer for a conference,
I stand corrected. It is Baton Rouge.

I can buy Auburn over Baton Rouge. Auburn is an adorable college town while Baton Rouge is a depressing crime-ridden shithole most resemblant of Biff’s evil 1985 from Back to the Future.

Gainesville is pretty lame, though, and College Station is a joke.

I would put Baton Rouge no better than 8th, and no worse than 10th (ahead of Tuscaloosa, Gainesville, Starkville, and College Station). I have never been to either Columbia, so not sure how BR stacks up against them.
