Every time a thread about SECCG appearances gets started the same people are more than happy to use ours as ammo against schools that don't have one and he was the coach that got us there.

Ford got us there first..... ain't nobody clamoring for him to be our AD.

Truly only once in 06 and that game ended in classic Nutt style. I don't count the 02 year as we only went because Alabama was on probation. We certainly didn't deserve it but Georgia made sure that the best team wasn't playing them that day.

Should've stuck with Mustain; he wasn't playing well, but he was a true freshman and had much more potential than Dick. Miles did the same thing to Jarrett Lee and he was never the same mentally

The problem was that it was so messy behind the scenes. I'm not sure there really was a way to make it all work right at that point.

Your title seems pretty dramatic. He did not go nuclear. His takes were pretty level headed and the fact that he is not welcomed back in the facility is pretty surprising. I think that is one of the best things that Coach O did was by welcoming back former players and breathing life into the program.

Arkansas is different from LSU. Something bad is not like that at LSU which is why players reacted different from their schools. Might have something to do with the individual player than with any player there. Might not be a good fit and may create more problems. There are lesser schools to go to first before moving up to at a power 5 school.

It was never going to happen here with Mustain. Nutt wanted Mustain but without Malzahn. But part of the recruiting deal was that Mustain would only come if Malzahn was hired as the OC. Nutt reluctantly accepted the deal because if he didn't then he would be fired.

The rumor at the time was Nutt believed he could lose his job to Malzahn. So any success that Mustain had, Gus took the credit. So when Nutt felt his job was secure for the year, he had a quick trigger on Mustain and pulled him after one interception against South Carolina. Casey Dick was fair until he had the worst stats of any quarterback in Arkansas History against LSU. But Casey was his quarterback so he didn't care if he lost out or not.

Yes if Mitch Mustain wasn't pulled and kept improving then we had a good chance of beating Florida and winning the SEC.

He was throwing picks left and right. If i remember correctly the game in which he was pulled he threw 3 INTs in like 8 pass attempts.

Can't have your freshman QB doing that shite when you have DMAC, Felix Jones and Peyton Hillis in the backfield.

The whole Springdale 5 thing was a disaster. The only one of them that turned out to be worth a shite was Damion Williams and he had about as many drops as catches the one year he was here.

Guessing that experience was why Mallett didn't go straight to Arkansas

Well the excuse was that he didn't want to come here because Mustain was here but I think the real reason is that he didn't like Nutt or his offense.

Mustain was pulled after one series, an interception against South Carolina. Perfect excuse to bring Casey in who has recovered from back surgery.

Yes just like Casey was 0/3/13 yards passing against LSU? McFadden had more passing touchdowns than Casey did.

Damian Williams transferred to Southern Cal, started and would play in the NFL. He also made the SEC all freshman team here. Ben Cleveland caught the game winning pass against Alabama which was the last time we beat them. Unfortunately he had a career ending injury. After Mustain transferred, he didn't care anymore.

dchog,

I don't see Houston Nutt as a disgusting douchebag of a human being like 'SOME' of you do.
I guess our opinions just differ, sorry.

I met him before and talked to him on the phone. The first time was in 04 at a hotel. I met him because my friend is a general manager of a CFL team. He talked to my friend but didn't bother talking to me. But it doesn't matter because his actions here justified his reputation.

Now I met Ken Hatfield and what a change in personality. He talked to me like I'm a person. Also it helps that my great uncle played at Arkansas with him.

I didn't look up the stats i just remember agreeing with the decision to pull him when they did.

I came off a little harsh in my previous post. I don't have animosity for the guys. Several of them probably should have followed their heart elsewhere from the start.

I don't think anybody is arguing that Casey was a great QB. Our strength was the run game and having a more mature QB instead of Mustain served us better. We did a lot more of the single wing after that which is what we should have been doing the whole time.

Correct. Mustain wasn't a Heisman candidate but he was pretty good for a freshman who was having to deal with petty drama between two grown men (Nutt and Malzahn).

Springdale 5 and reporters weren't the only issues Nutt had either.

The fact that he almost created a pipeline from Warren to Tennessee was enough for him to be fired. Nutt built some bad blood with his over recruitment and under delivering to high school recruits. Thank goodness Petrino was able to mend that fence because we would have been in trouble had Warren kept sending players out of Arkansas.

I listened to the whole interview. Peyton and I are probably the most opposite human beings on the planet, but I would agree with his sentiments.

He wasn't shitting on Arkansas. He was reminiscing on how much better the situation could've been. I feel the same way about all of my time growing up in the state and going to undergrad there.

He wasn't saying he had no love for Arkansas. He was saying he got more love from and connects with Cleveland. I connect with Columbia more as my business school.

He wasn't saying he won't cheer for them. He was saying his opinion is based on what he beleives could make them better. I have no opinion about running a college football program because I haven't played in over a decade.

Peyton has never been the sharpest tool in the shed. But that interview was the most thought out and introspective I've ever heard from him.

Stop using former players personal opinions as excuses to dig into insecurities about why we suck arse.

I've been around him before and he's a self absorbed narcissist. I would say all of this to his face.

This. 100% truth. Meathead, douchebag of the highest order. Roids and HGH owe him more than Arkansas does. He's always been a malcontent. Anyone normal person that spends a brief time around him will feel the same.

That sounds like Mark Pierce who is serving in prison. But at least Peyton didn't go that extreme.

You don't pull your starting quarterback after one series and an interception. Unless you have a good reason and Mustain didn't do poorly enough to be pulled.

I don't have anything against them because they were victims of the Nutt and Malzahn storm. Mustain should have thought with his head and went out of state. He was doomed when he got here. Casey got the short end of the stick with Nutt when his redshirt was pulled against South Carolina the year before for no reason.

Casey didn't have the upside that Mitch did. The 08 season was the best you got from him. Casey had a slight experience advantage but Mitch made throws that Casey just couldn't do.

Many of the offensive lineman commented on how much a relief that Mitch gave them with his passing game.

The early part of the season, Gus was in small parts installing the HUNH offense but after Mustain was pulled, the offense was ultra conservative and the three game losing streak to season were a good example.
