I’m a professor.
I don’t take attendance.
I have hard data showing that there’s a direct correlation between my students who attend class and those who don’t—to say nothing of the fact that part of their grade is comprised of thinking critically, taking a stance, citing research, and arguing their opinions with me throughout the semester.
I tell my students each semester: You’re adults.
If you decide that coming to class isn’t your jam—despite paying serious $ jack to do so—that’s your call.
I couldn’t give less of a lick.

Have you been known to grant extra credit for "extra credit"?

Article is full of shite.
This program is a non-mandatory pilot program offered to 2% of students.
We have an non-mandatory app on our campus for students called Live Safe to locate students and send out alerts during emergencies.
Our app is not used to track attendance.
Yep, we certainly live in a fake news world.

Doesn't Alabama already do this to track students at the football game?
Although I think theres is voluntary.

Wow, that's draconian. More Missouri kids to Arkansas, I'm sure. The Chicagoans won't mind it as much.

Having spent 36 years in public education I couldn’t agree more. Use to be parents only showed up if there was a problem with a kid or to extracurricular activities. Now I see parents bring their kids lunch to school everyday. Too many credit recovery classes, 504 plans are basically given out which is a golden ticket to be a turd for some kids. Not all because there are kids that need those plans. We practically hold it for them when they go to the bathroom now. Basically have just created a society that can’t function without help.
I had hope to go 40 years at one time but I’m not sure I can make it. And damnit if I don’t get my square pizza back I may not last the rest of this year.

BTW- Mizzou enrollment is up, especially incoming freshman. 16% increase in freshman students from 2018 to 2019.

"MU reported on Thursday that so far, 5,460 students have paid enrollment deposits for the fall, a more than 15% increase over the 4,696 in the fall 2018 class. Since students are likely to continue to enroll throughout the summer, university officials said the final number could be higher."
The numbers have been climbing since the 2015 class which is when the protest started

Bad idea? Probably. Illegal? Eh, maybe not. Keep in mind that colleges still have a legal measure of In Loco Parentis, even if it's been greatly eroded over the years. The colleges could argue in court that they have a right to their policy. "No app, no enrollment. Choose".

Enrollment has been growing rather quickly but this will not help.

That is total enrollment which is being affected by smaller incoming classes a few years back.
Freshman enrollment has increased every year for 3 years in a row.

Just razzing you guys
+/- a few thousand kids isn't moving the needle all that much and frankly, you're almost back to pre-Click numbers anyway.
On another note, it seems like your football attendance is something to be concerned about. What are they doing to address that? I think ya'll had a renovation or two within the last year or two.
