Mississippi State played us better as far as defense is concerned

Bama with Tua was the #2 team IMO.
The final AP and Coaches Polls were kind of ridiculous. Particularly putting Oklahoma and Oregon ahead of them.
I can see an argument for Clemson and OSU, but if I was voting my top 4 postseason are LSU, Bama, OSU and Clemson, in that order.
I’m as anti-Tide as anyone, but the final polls strike me as lacking in integrity.
I don’t have any issue with the teams selected for the playoff. At the time, Oklahoma had as good an argument as anyone for the 4 seed.

Ehhhhh I think Clemson matches up better with Alabama and even Ohio State than LSU. I think what really screwed with Venables this time around is he didn’t have a full fricking month to prepare for a team like he usually does.
I don’t think Alabama beats OSU or Clemson with a healthy Tua. I’ll get some shite for that but Alabama’s receivers are lightning in a bottle compared to Clemson and OSU’s more physical corners, which I think presents some problems. Same could be said for LSU to be quite honest but I do believe there’s a talent disparity in the back end with Clemson and OSU’s defensive backs vs. LSU’s.

I don’t think the gap is very wide, and I do see the argument for those two being 2 and 3.
It’s essentially a coin flip.
My point was that #8 seemed disingenuous.

Our offensive line stoned walled LSUs front all night. We couldn’t handle a stunt from TCU by mid season.

LSU had 5 sacks, 7 TFLs and held the run game to 3.3 YPC. I think stonewalled is a bit of an exaggeration.
The OL did play well much of the game, at least in pass protection. Either LSU got to Ehlinger or he had all day to throw.
Duvernay is a beast though. He’s so good we thought our nickel sucked because everyone was worried about Colin Johnson, but Duvernay was y’all’s best WR by a wide margin. Our nickel balled out the rest of the year.
Ehlinger is a warrior and deserves better than Herman.
Herman is like Les Miles in that he’ll get the team up for big games against everyone except your main rival, but then inexplicably has a few WTF games against inferior opponents year. Kansas was probably the best example even though y’all won, which kind of drives home that point (Les got his team ready to play while Herman’s team laid an egg and was lucky to escape).
Had each coach been at the other school, the result would have likely been similar.
Good luck next year except when y’all play us. CFB needs more than 10-12 legit contenders and Texas has the resources to compete.

I have to agree with this. I still think LSU was the better team between the two, but Bama wasn’t far behind with Tua. Auburn could have easily been in the conversation also if they had had a good seasoned QB.

I'm thinking the loss of a D-line that went 4th, 13th, & 17th in the draft last year may have played a hand in it a well!

Certainly top 4. Hopefully Oklahoma has finally shown the committee that 4 elite conference champions rarely exist in any given CFB season

He had the same amount of time as the coaches he faced. He got steamrolled.
If Venables was that good, he wouldn't need a month to prepare.

Whatever health percentage Tua was for the LSU game wouldn't have mattered. LSU was a better team this season, and Bama wouldn't have beaten LSU regardless. Keep telling yourself they would have, if it helps you sleep, but the final score doesn't indicate how bad LSU beat y'all that day. Even with the late flurry by Bama and LSU coasting for much of the 4th quarter, it was 46-34 with 1:37 left in the game. Game was never in doubt.

The delusion is strong with this one.

LSU did get better as the season progressed. Those teams were lucky to get the tigers early.
