Leach, Kiffin, Pittman... discuss

A bit surprised that State got Leach after the ballyhoo they went through.
In all seriousness, where will we end up in 2-3 years in all of this?
Should be fun regardless, but would be much more fun if we have a defense to stop the offensive knowledge of the Miss schools, among others of course...

I’m probably in the minority but I think the Leach love is overblown. I don’t see him being successful at State at all and their fans will grow to hate him and his quips if he doesn’t produce immediately. They thought Moorhead wasn’t a cultural fit but Mike Leach will be instead?

I think all of this collectively ends Bamas dominance in the west. Not saying they won't be favored in conference every year but adding offense from leach, kiffin and briles creates much more difficult matchups.
Add to that the fact that Tennessee is on the up and LSU is very solid again and Auburn has their number every 3-4 years or so and it will make it much much harder for Bama to go undefeated (or anyone for that matter ) in conference

I mean most on tRant will be quick to clarify most of the love is because of his personality and not that he is some amazing coach, although I still think its a good hire. Especially when you consider their situation.
That being said, I'm very interested to see the contract. Hard to think they didn't overpay for him. Leach at alot of leverage in the negotiations unless he was truly trying to find anyway to leave and this was his last chance.

The Leach hire is for shock value and entertainment, less so about actual expected success in the SEC. Other bigger schools avoided him for a reason after doing due diligence on him.
His line play will be his downfall. Defensive line will knee cap him and his offensive line will break his back.

I wanted 1 of those 2 to be at Arkansas and would be pretty butthurt if I knew this would be the end result a month ago. After the staff Pittman has assembled, I feel ok, but I don’t trust shite about our program any longer till I see results on the field.

The melt on the Twatterz is glorious. Move to the Big 12 to we're the Vandy of the west.

We didn’t make the flashiest hire of the 3 but could end up being the most pragmatic. Just bookmark shite for now.

Not gonna lie, if Pittboss hadn't hired the coordinators he did I'd be more than a little upset right now.

I wonder if Mike Irwin will buy a cowbell
Seriously though, I'm not scared of any coach or any team. We've already been through some bad shite and nothing will probably top getting beat by San Jose State and having a QB that our dipshit aggie coach booted come in and beat us down in the same season.
The positive side to this mess is that Leach and Kiffin will create enough drama and sound bites to keep the drama away from us. Pittman will catch some shite from the media because of his "good ol boy" slow talking demeanor but it won't be anywhere near the circus in Mississippi. Those two frickers will be taking shots and tweeting at eachother in no time.

quote:At most he was a hire purely for trolling material on the board. He interested me enough to look into him, but once I did what I found wasn't all that impressive. I think he's a good hire for MSU because he knows how to periodically make noise with less, but that's really all it's gonna be. A flash in the pan every now and then followed by frequent trips to the cellar.

Those Oline gaps are Big12 gaps, your gonna have to tighten those up.
I know he did OK when he had a month to prepare for a bowl the SEC team was disinterested in being in.
Ms. State is use to losing the Maines and LaTechs of the world so those losses by him won't phase them much.

We don't need a Leach at the moment, and I was always a bit iffy if we needed a Kiffin.
We aren't at the hire an offensive mastermind to challenge for the West stage. We are at rebuild the team from the ground up and get as many warm bodies (bonus if they are quality players) on the team as is possible as quickly as possible.
For that Pittman and his staff are the run away best choice we could have made. Maybe he'll turn things around and quickly guide us back to the SEC Championship but I'll be ecstatic if he just gets us back to bowl games and leaves the larder stocked for the next coaching regime.

Yeah....Ill be completely honest, this was a home run hire for MSU. Regardless of how you feel about Leach, the results over his career speak for themselves. He's also well known for doing more with less, which will be a huge advantage at MSU.
I wanted Leach, so Im not at all excited that hes at a conference rival that has been running roughshod over us the past 3 years.
This may not turn out to hurt us in the long run, but I can guarantee it certainly did not help.

I'm with you and would say the same about Kiffin. Kiffin at least coached at Tennessee, but Leach will be the next big name coach to get exposed in the SEC, just like Bert did.

Yep. There’s no way to spin this. We needed State to go back to thier historical mean. At minimum leach will run a competent program.

Look at his record as wazzu now compare to Ms states historical mean.
Well on their way.
